The importance of Bloodborne Pathogen training

12 Jun 2024 8:41 AM | Robert&Tammy Harris

What are Bloodborne pathogens?

Bloodborne pathogens are infectious microorganisms that are found in blood that can cause disease in humans. Some examples include but are not limited to hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV. Healthcare workers and cleaning professionals are at a high risk of being exposed to or infected, there for Bloodborne pathogen training is of the utmost importance to keep your staff protected.

To keep your staff proactive on protecting themselves from Bloodborne pathogens or other possible infectious materials (OPIM). Providing ongoing training and fun quizzes to win a small prize can be a good way. Make sure they understand when and how to use the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), for example donning and doffing (putting on and removing) your PPE can be part of the quiz with live demonstrations.

Protecting your staff is more than just about keeping them safe. It's about keeping the public safe and if we all do our part and be proactive we can do it.
