CDC: Most in US not infected by Coronavirus, but susceptible

02 May 2020 7:16 AM | IJCSA - (Administrator)

Most people in the United States have not been infected by the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, but remain susceptible, raising the possibility of another surge, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The figure is a map of the United States showing the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases (N = 101) linked to nine Nile River cruises held during February 11–March 5, 2020, by the patients’ 18 states of residence.

According to the report, which traces the development of the pandemic in the United States: “Preliminary results from serologic surveys suggest that even in the U.S. regions with the largest numbers of recognized cases, most persons have not been infected and remain susceptible. Therefore, sustained and concerted efforts will be needed to prevent future spread of SARS-CoV-2 within the United States. “Because SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, remains in circulation and a large proportion of the population remains susceptible, the potential for future acceleration remains.”
