19 Sep 2024 10:14 PM | Kevin Kinter

It is important for cleaning employees and owners to know about the serious risks of bloodborne pathogens because it will help keep themselves and others safe from bloodborne infections. Knowing how to defend against bloodborne pathogens is crucial, especially in the cleaning industry, we are the frontline defense of cleaning and disinfection. We need to be properly informed to keep ourselves and others safe.

Treating every bloodborne incident as if the blood is infected is the best course of action in every situation. Also following universal color-coding guidelines will help mitigate mistakes and keep everyone safe. Some of the biggest risks of bloodborne pathogens are HIV, HPV, and Hepatitis B. It is best practice to wear PPE at all times, disinfect all surfaces properly, dispose of PPE correctly, and wash your hands thoroughly after handling potential bloodborne pathogens.

In conclusion, it is important to know proper procedures while handling bloodborne pathogens, understand your company's written exposure plan, wear proper PPE at all times, disinfect all surfaces properly, follow universal color-coding, and take the utmost care to ensure your own and others' safety.
