A newly identified variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus appears to be more contagious than established ones. Here’s what scientists know.

Dr. Moncef Slaoui, the head scientific adviser to Operation Warp Speed, the federal effort to deliver a vaccine to the American public, said that the new variant reported in Britain was unlikely to affect the efficacy of a vaccine.

At some point — “some day, somewhere” — a variant of the virus may make the current vaccine ineffective, he said, but the chance of that happening with this vaccine is very low. Nevertheless, he said, “we have to remain absolutely vigilant.”

TOKYO >> Trepidation gave way to excitement when Toru Koremura, president of a Tokyo-based cleaning company, took on the job of disinfecting the Diamond Princess — the cruise ship quarantined in the port of Yokohama that made global headlines early in the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 38-year-old cleaning specialist admits part of him was scared to delve into what was then considered one of the world’s biggest coronavirus hot spots.

But in the end, what overcame his fear was the thought of what he and others tasked with decontaminating the vessel might be able to achieve: ridding the world of the notion that Japan was tied to the start of the outbreak.

The U.S. professional cleaning services market by revenue is expected to grow at a CAGR of over 6% during the period 2021–2026

The U.S. professional cleaning services market is experiencing growth on account of the increased popularity of “green cleaning technology.” The use of sustainable washing agents, which include special chemicals, equipment, and techniques, is a major factor contributing to the growth of the market. Green products contain natural solutions and cleaners, which are safe and preferred for commercial end-users. Organic ingredients in the cleaning agents are harmless with health minimal effect on the human body. Green cleaning is an effective alternative, which employs chemicals. Efforts are consistently made by vendors to promote green methods as chemicals used in conventional procedures are polluting the air, water, and land. Hence, the dependency on green products, which are made up of natural, plant-based materials, is witnessing traction, thereby driving the demand for eco-friendly professional services.

The following factors are likely to contribute to the growth of the U.S. professional cleaning services market during the forecast period:

    • Preference for Green Cleaning Services

    • Development in Robotic and Automated Cleaners

    • High Preference for Specialized Services

The study considers the present scenario of the U.S. professional cleaning services market and its market dynamics for the period 2020?2026. It covers a detailed overview of several market growth enablers, restraints, and trends. The report offers both the demand and supply aspects of the market. It profiles and examines leading companies and other prominent ones operating in the market.

Health care personnel and residents of long-term care facilities will be the first groups to be offered the Covid-19 vaccine, according to a new proposal from an independent advisory committee within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices met virtually on Tuesday to discuss who would receive the first doses of the vaccine and to vote on the proposed language for the recommendation. The proposal passed 13 to 1.

The panel of outside scientific experts makes recommendations to the CDC, which almost always accepts them.

“We have spent eight months discussing and evaluating the data,” Dr. José Romero, ACIP chair, said following the vote. “We are using the principles of maximizing benefits and minimizing harms, promoting justice and mitigating health inequities.”

Springfield's custodians and cleaning service employees are just as much on the pandemic front lines as health care workers and emergency responders, but their work isn't as well-known because it often occurs after hours and when buildings are empty. Armed with gloves, masks, potent disinfectants and a literally healthy dose of caution, they are sent to areas where doing a good job might save someone's life.

Are they concerned for their own safety? Certainly. But their experience and training help them to mitigate the risk, and they are proud of the vital job that they do.

Dushun Hogan owns Cleaning General Janitorial Services Inc. of Springfield. He's been in business for five years and has four employees, one of whom tested positive for COVID, likely from a non-work-related source. The employee has since recovered and has resumed working.

Hogan said his greatest concern right now is the effect that the pandemic will have on the businesses that he cleans.

PHOENIX - Shelves in Valley grocery stores are starting to look like they did back in the spring.

Paper products like paper towels and toilet paper and some cleaning supplies are once again becoming hard to find.

"It was, in a way, expected," HItendra Chaturvedi, a professor of supply chain management at ASU, said.

Arizonans started to buy up items at the end of October following a trend seen elsewhere in the country.

Chaturvedi said the three main reasons why are: COVID-19 cases going up, people stocking up for winter and the election.

RELATED: Preparing for a pandemic doesn't include stocking up on toilet paper

The difference between now and the spring Chaturvedi said is that there is supply.

"The companies are better prepared, and they have more capability," Chaturvedi said. "But we just have to be careful that we don't hoard for the next six months."
