Pro - Clean Management: Green/Environmental cleaning goes beyond chemicals

01 Oct 2016 1:55 PM | Deleted user

Green and environmental-friendly cleaning is a process that involves more than "green" cleaning products. First of all, cleaning chemicals are designed to kill germs so they all contain chemical compounds with the strength to fulfill this mission. We want cleaning chemicals that don't represent a hazard to our health but also get the job done. No chemical out there is 100% "green". Even by EPA standards, a green cleaning product is viewed as one with low levels of VOC, acidic compounds, and other toxic substances.

So what else can we do to offer a more health conscious and environmental-friendly cleaning program

A) Equipment:  Use HEPA certified vacuums. Traditional vacuums contribute to indoor airborne dust so make the change.

B) New procedures: Use less amounts of chemicals. More doesn't necessarily means better. Using less amounts of chemicals and mixing with water is a good healthy choice.

  • Perform more day cleaning. Scheduling your cleaning during the day and taking advantage of day light helps save energy.
C) Educate your clients: Is a good idea to educate your clients on the procedures, policies, equipment, and chemicals you use. Tenants like facilities that smell good and have a nice fragrance. Many "green" chemicals don't have this nice fragrance your clients may want and they can perceive this as the facility not being clean.

D) Train your employees: making expectations clear, training your employees, and making green cleaning your top priority is essential for the success of your green cleaning program
