Salad dressing, step aside. Apple cider vinegar may liven up your lettuce, but did you know that it’s also a miracle liquid, especially when it comes to keeping your house clean without chemicals?

Like all vinegar, apple cider vinegar has potent antimicrobial properties, making it an excellent way to clean your home. And unlike most cleaning products marketed to us for “miracle” cleaning properties, ACV contains no harmful ingredients. Studies have shown that vinegar can disinifect just as well as bleach! But it’s safer for your family and the planet.

You can dilute vinegar in with water (1:1 ratio) and it can be mixed with other natural cleaning products like lemon juice, salt, alcohol or essential oils. A note about baking soda, which is a common natural cleaning item: mixing baking soda and vinegar will impair the bacteria-killing properties of vinegar. (It’s a little science lesson: the alkalinity of the baking soda and the acidy of the vinegar neutralize.) So if you’re planning to clean surfaces that come in contact with food, it’s best not to mix with baking soda. You can mix the two, however, for cleaning your oven, or even unclogging drains.

A strike by cleaning staff at Mumbai Airport left passengers waiting for their flights amid piles of rubbish.

Passengers travelling in and out of Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport were met with overflowing bins in the terminals and in the bathrooms, and dirty toilets.

More than 1,900 cleaning staff at the airport went on strike on Wednesday, with the action having an impact on amenities available to passengers - not to mention creating eyesores.

The rubbish began to build up at Mumbai Airport after the cleaning workers walked out in strike over wages

The rubbish began to build up at Mumbai Airport after the cleaning workers walked out in strike over wages

While much of the rubbish is the gradual build up from customers, one passenger claimed the workers themselves are making the situation worse.

Speaking to the Mumbai Mirror, Niraj Kumar, who was flying on to Delhi, said: 'The toilet floor was full of tissue paper.

'It appeared that the striking workers had dumped them there.'

After researching multiple ingredients and their usages, we plan to implement green cleaning into our business by first experimenting with different combinations of common household ingredients to determine which ones work best for the surfaces we clean. We will create a catalogue of the new natural cleaning products to ensure that the amounts of each ingredient is carefully measured to achieve the best results. We will then add the new products to our inventory along with any new supplies such as cloths that assist with achieving the best results.

Next, staff will be trained on the most effective ways to clean with the new products. We will advertise that our company uses 100% natural cleaning products. Then, we will begin using these products. Last, we will solicit feedback from staff and clients regarding the use of the products over six months’ time. In order to continue the high quality of work we are known for, we need to know how well the natural products work, if allergic reactions or other adverse reactions to chemicals reduced over time from the use of natural products, etc.

Not all of us can afford $6,000 for a self-cleaning toilet, so scrubbing one usually revolves around a yucky toilet brush. However, a product coming to Kickstarter may make the chore marginally more pleasant. Called Loogun, it's like a big dental WaterPik for your toilet that cleans with a narrow stream of water. The cordless, handheld device has a reservoir you fill with fresh water from time to time, and runs on four AA batteries that last nine months. With a powerful stream, it can blast detritus from your bowl, even below water level, according to the team behind it. It's also child-safe, since it won't spray when it's pointed up (and prevents toddlers from trying to snack on a regular toilet brush, of course).

I constantly used to worry everytime I cleaned something, about touching the chemicals afterwards. So after cleaning I would go back and wipe down the surfaces with a wet rag and wash my hands out of paranioa. This is what led me to know that I wanted to implement green products into my forming business.

With green products, you never have to second guess if you are harming or helping the enviroment. I personally am always concerned that a surface touched contains a chemical that I might somehow get in my eye or mouth. I am excited to be a part of a movement that is good for the future and good for the present and health of all involved!
