Properly cleaning healthcare facilities is crucial to maintaining a safe and sanitary environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Healthcare environments are highly susceptible to the spread of infectious diseases due to the constant exposure to pathogens, bloodborne contaminants, and bodily fluids. Without consistent and effective cleaning protocols, healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) can rapidly spread, endangering vulnerable populations. Trained cleaning professionals understand the importance of using EPA-approved disinfectants, following universal precautions, and adhering to strict sanitation procedures. These practices not only reduce the risk of cross-contamination but also uphold the trust and safety expectations of patients receiving care.

In addition to infection control, proper healthcare cleaning supports regulatory compliance and helps facilities meet the high standards required by agencies such as OSHA, CDC, and The Joint Commission. Regular cleaning and disinfection of patient rooms, operating theaters, exam areas, and waiting rooms ensure that surfaces are free from harmful bacteria, viruses, and pathogens. Using proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and understanding chemical hazards is essential for janitorial staff working in medical environments. Being IJCSA Medical Cleaning Certified ensures that cleaning professionals have the knowledge and skills to handle these demanding tasks safely and effectively.

At the end of the day, healthcare cleaning is more than just cleanliness — it’s a matter of health and safety. Clean Freaks is excited to announce that we are now officially IJCSA Master Green Cleaning Certified, proving our commitment to providing safe, sustainable, and environmentally responsible cleaning services. Through the IJCSA Master Green Cleaning Certification Program, we gained in-depth knowledge about the harmful effects of toxic cleaning chemicals and how they impact human health, indoor air quality, and the planet. The course taught us about proper green cleaning techniques, the benefits of using eco-friendly products, and how to reduce our carbon footprint while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness. We also learned how small changes—such as switching to microfiber cloths, biodegradable cleaners, and energy-efficient equipment—can make a big difference for both our clients and the environment.

One of the most interesting aspects of the course was learning how green cleaning not only protects the environment but also improves health and productivity. Many traditional cleaning chemicals release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that contribute to respiratory problems, allergies, and long-term health risks. By using certified green products and sustainable cleaning methods, Clean Freaks can now ensure safer air quality and healthier indoor spaces for our customers. The IJCSA also provided valuable resources on waste reduction, recycling, and the importance of using concentrated cleaning solutions to minimize plastic waste—helping us do our part to fight global issues like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

By implementing everything we learned from the IJCSA Master Green Cleaning course, Clean Freaks is not only protecting our planet but also saving money and operating more efficiently. Green cleaning methods reduce the need for harsh chemicals, lower equipment maintenance costs, and minimize waste disposal fees. Energy-efficient practices and water conservation techniques have further reduced our operating expenses while boosting sustainability. When you hire Clean Freaks, you’re supporting a company that genuinely cares about the environment, your health, and the future of our planet. Visit the IJCSA Green Cleaning Directory to learn more about certified green cleaning professionals like us—because together, we can make a cleaner, greener world!

Companies and or persons who've trained and have learned these essential skills are able to help those around them not only in the workplace but also in everyday life such as; home and out in the community. This is valuable learning experience that should be taught through all industries and building confidence in serving others during a time of need.

Cleaning employees play a crucial role in maintaining safe and sanitary environments, especially in workplaces, public facilities, and healthcare settings. Because they regularly handle trash, bodily fluids, contaminated surfaces, and sharp objects, understanding blood-borne pathogens is essential for their safety. Bloodborne pathogens such as HIV, HBV, and HCV are infectious microorganisms that can be transmitted through contact with infected blood or other potentially infectious materials. Without proper knowledge and training, cleaning staff may unknowingly expose themselves or others to serious and potentially life threatening diseases.

Proper training ensures that cleaning employees know how to identify potential hazards and follow the correct safety procedures. This includes understanding universal precautions, using PPE, safely handling sharps, properly disposing of contaminated materials, and immediately responding to spills involving blood or bodily fluids. When workers understand these protocols, they are better prepared to prevent accidents, avoid cross- contamination, and reduce risk of exposure. Knowledge also empowers workers to respond confidently and correctly if an exposure incident occurs, by washing the affected area, reporting it immediately, and seeking medical evaluation.

Beyond protecting just the employee, understanding bloodborne pathogens helps protect coworkers, clients, patients, and the wider community. Cleaning staff are often the first line of defense in stopping the spread of infectious diseases. Their ability to safely clean and disinfect contaminated surfaces prevents outbreaks, protects vulnerable individuals, and maintains compliance with OSHA regulations. When employees are properly trained, businesses avoid legal risks, maintain professional standards, and ensure a healthy environment for everyone who enters the space. In this way, knowledge about bloodborne pathogens is not only a personal safety requirement but also a vital part of public health.

Topps Cleaning Service believes that occupational health, safety, and knowledge about bloodborne pathogens is crucial, particularly for our cleaning employees and staff. Bloodborne pathogens are infectious microorganisms present in blood that can cause diseases in humans. This group of pathogens includes, but is not limited to, Hepatitis B (HBV), Hepatitis C (HCV), and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Given the nature of cleaning tasks, which often involve exposure to bodily fluids, it is imperative that our staff be well-informed and adequately trained to handle such hazards.

Our facility employees such as janitors, housekeepers, custodians, and cleaners may be at risk of exposure to blood and other body fluids in the workplace. If proper precautions are not taken, exposure to these pathogens can easily lead to infectious diseases.

Organizations, like Topps Cleaning Service, are required by law to comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards regarding bloodborne pathogens. These regulations mandate employee training, the implementation of exposure control plans, and the provision of necessary protective equipment. Compliance not only ensures the safety of our employees but also protects Topps Cleaning Service from legal liabilities associated with non-compliance.

Our educated and well-trained cleaning staff play a critical role in preventing the spread of infectious diseases within the workplace. By following proper protocols, our employees can minimize the risk of contamination and ensure a safer environment for everyone. This is particularly important in healthcare settings, schools, and other public facilities where the risk of exposure is higher.

Topps Cleaning Service, as well as other members of the IJCSA, prioritize employee safety and protection from the risks that these pathogens pose.
