The Janitorial team(s) are vital to everyone's health and safety in a school/office building. They do the jobs that others seemingly take for granted, that is until they are off for the day and the tasks they do routinely are not done.

No one likes to touch surfaces that have unknown substances on them, or worse bodily fluids, with the latest strains of Covid, and other diseases that can be transmitted via contact our janitors have a daunting task to help keep us safe whether it is a restroom, doors/windows, to our cafeterias at work.

As a cleaning service of newer homes and repo homes, each presents with it own challenges and need to be handled differently. You are not sure how people live until you have to clean a home they have left behind, so no judgement and putting your head down and using your tools, you get the job done and make it safe for all.

Bloodborne pathogens are infectious microorganisms that are transmitted by blood. For example, HIV and hepatitis B (and many others) are bloodborne pathogens. These diseases are transmitted through infected body fluids that enter the bloodstream of an uninfected person. Bloodborne pathogens can be transmitted through infected body fluids that enter the bloodstream. HIV and HBV can pose serious, long-term health risks or even death if someone comes into contact with them.

These pathogens can be transmitted in several ways. The most common ways of transmission are needlesticks, cuts, bites from humans, and mucous membranes. For example, if you are taking out the trash and come in contact with a dirty or used needle, you may come in contact with a bloodborne pathogen. Or you may need to mop up bodily fluids, and splashes can come in contact with your mucous membranes or contaminate a small tear in your skin. Any cleaning job where you come in contact with blood or other body fluids puts you at risk for spreading bloodborne pathogens. All in all, you should always assume that all body fluids you come into contact with are contaminated. This is called universal precautions. Therefore training on bloodborne pathogens is required for proper cleaning.

OSHA has developed training on bloodborne pathogens that explains how to clean body fluids, what personal protective equipment to wear when cleaning body fluids, how to properly clean and dispose of body fluids, and what else to look for in this area. For example, gloves, goggles and possibly a face mask are essential for your own protection from contamination. Thorough hand washing after an exposure is also among the important protective measures. In addition, any contamination waste generated must be specially labeled and disposed of separately, for example in different colored waste bags (red or orange).

Cleaning services and training on bloodborne pathogens are essential to keeping our environment safe for everyone. Every cleaner should complete training on bloodborne pathogens, as it is necessary for the proper performance of the job. Employers should provide access to this training free of charge during working hours. This training is one of the most important experiences a janitor or cleaner needs to have, especially, but not only, if they work in a hospital. The CDC reported that approximately 5.6 million healthcare and janitorial service workers are at risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens. If you can clean and dispose of body fluids before a bloodborne pathogen can spread, you can save lives!

I believe after taking bloodborne pathogen certification course is probably the most important course one could take. Infectious bloodborne pathogens could strike anywhere anytime, and knowing the risks, dangers, precautions to take, and how to handle oneself when faced with a situation, is a matter of life and death. In the career field of a Janitorial worker or cleaning crew, it is a must to know. It is like playing Russian roulette with ones life to cleanup bodily fluids and not know the dangers of infectious pathogens.

To give a little background on bloodborne pathogens and the risks that come with it. Infectious Bloodborne pathogens are very tiny microorganisms found in blood. These pathogens can cause incurable disease such as HIV, HBV, and HCV. once you contract such disease your chances of death are extremely high. HIV or Humane Immunodeficiency is a disease that can soon bring on AIDS. It breaks down your immune system to the point you cant even fight off a common cold. These disease once you contract one is not curable. The best one can do is make your life as comfortable as possible until the disease finally wins.

Fortunately there are precautions and guidelines you can follow that will greatly reduce your chances of ever contracting a infectious bloodborne pathogen. Osha has set up many rules, guidelines, and steps to take. Universal precaution is one that we must treat all bodily fluids as infectious. How we handle taking out the trash, or what steps to take when cleaning up bodily fluids are just a few of the precautions we must follow. Not knowing these can be a death sentence to a cleaning or janitorial worker. Important to know this material is a understatement when it comes to bloodborne pathogens.

Understanding of the importance of OSHA guidelines for the handling of bloodborne pathogens is essential for cleaning staff/ employees to ensure a safe and healthy workplace. Bloodborne pathogens, such as HIV and hepatitis B and C can cause serious health issues when transmitted. Cleaning personnel are often in situations where exposure is possible due to potential contact with bodily fluids or sharp objects that could carry these pathogens. Knowing how to properly handle and dispose of such materials minimizes the risk of exposure, protecting both the employee and others in the facility.

Proper training on bloodborne pathogens equips employees with the knowledge needed to recognize potential hazards, so they can take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and others. This includes wearing proper protective equipment, such as gloves and masks, safely cleaning and disinfecting areas, and understanding how to handle and dispose of hazardous waste. Proper training also ensures that staff will know how to respond to incidents like accidental needle sticks or spills involving bodily fluids. These practices help to maintain a safe and healthy workplace.

Finally, emphasizing the importance of OSHA guidelines among cleaning staff underscores the organizations commitment to the health and safety of its employees and clients. Employees who are confident in their training/  knowledge are more likely to perform their task more effectively thus reducing the risk for themselves and others. This also helps prevent potential legal and financial repercussions for the organization, as proper training demonstrates due diligence in meeting health and safety standards. Overall a properly trained cleaning team plays a vital role in maintaining a secure and hygienic environment for everyone.

Todays corporate world often has businesses cutting costs in any way they can. This sometimes happens without truly understanding the consequences. The consequences of an office environment that is not properly cleaned could lead to your employees passing around a nasty or virus. This in the long run could lead to decreased productivity and frankly, decreased productivity in the work place.

When you seek out a truly professional cleaning company you are protecting your employees by having a company that is cross trained for all types of environments and possible occurrences.

When your employees bring an excellent standard to the table, they expect the same from you. It is a relationship. They need an environment where they can focus on work, not focus on sanitizing their desk because they keep getting sick from the group environment and lack of cleaning procedures.

Be ready for anything in the office and keep the standard high. Find a trusted cleaner today in your local IJCSA directory and https://www.ijcsa.org/Janitorial-Service-Directory-Find-A-Janitorial-Service-JanitorialServices

Building cleanliness and organization are the responsibility of janitorial workers. Janitors maintain customer and employee safety in the workplace. They keep companies running, whether it's in an office setting where teams collaborate closely or a hospital setting where disinfectants and cleanliness are key to sustaining healthy patients. Many people who are seeking medical attention may be more vulnerable to sickness, illness, and infections. The weak should not be subjected to such health risks; doing so is risky, unprofessional, and unjust. Because of this, in order to maintain a constantly clean and secure environment, healthcare institutions must adhere to state sanitation and sterilization regulations.

Healthcare facilities are cleaned for both cultural and medicinal purposes. Keeping the environment low in pathogens is critical to preventing problems while patients are receiving therapy and recovering. Patients and their family feel more at ease when they are in a clean, safe, hygienic environment that appears well-maintained and doesn't provide any more health risks.

While maintaining spotless homes and workplaces is something that we all desire, hospitals and clinics should be kept immaculate above all else. Patients may be a very vulnerable group, especially considering the staff's nonstop efforts to maintain their health, depending on their reasons for being there and how long they stay. Maintaining clean, safe, and healthy environments in medical facilities is something we owe to all parties concerned. https://www.ijcsa.org/Janitorial-Service-Directory-Find-A-Janitorial-Service-JanitorialServices

Properly cleaning healthcare facilities is so important to keep everyone safe and healthy. This includes: patients, visitors of patients, healthcare workers, as well as the cleaning personnel for these facilities. When a loved one has to go to the doctor or be admitted into hospital, you want the peace of mind of knowing you and your loved one will be safe from germs and bacteria as much as possible.

Along with following healthcare protocol for patient health and safety in general, it is also important for the cleaning personnel to follow strict and proper regimens to help in the process of a clean and safe environment for everyone that comes in contact or indirect contact with a potential infection. As a professional healthcare cleaner, it is my responsibility to make sure I am doing my part to keep others as well as myself safe by doing the following with all healthcare facilities. I will wear the proper PPE, use the correct disinfecting products that are registered with the EPA, clean all high touch surfaces, wash hands regularly, and always put on a new pair of latex gloves before entering a new patients room.

By following the procedures mentioned above I am confident that proper cleaning and disinfecting will help with the spread of germs and bacteria in a healthcare facility.
