Bloodborne pathogens are infectious microorganisms in blood that can rapidly spread. It is very critical to know about bloodborne pathogens because they can result into serious or life-threatening illnesses.  By being knowledgeable of how to handle bloodborne pathogens keeps you and others safe.

It's very important to limit yourself from any exposure to bloodborne pathogens by wearing protective gear such as googles, gloves, facemasks, and protective apparel.  It's also vital to thoroughly washing your hands after cleaning an area that has been exposed to bloodborne pathogens. You should also remove an contaminated articles of clothing immediately and dispose everything in the designated areas for hazardous waste. 

When dealing with bloodborne pathogens, you should treat all human blood and other bodily fluids as if they are infectious.  You could be exposed to diseases like HIV or Hepatitis B. You also have to be very vigilant for needles and other sharps- related items that can cause injuries.
