“Due to the public’s growing knowledge and concern about new severe health risks like Ebola, we’ve seen a consumer preference trend toward commercial-grade cleaning products,” said John Callahan, vice president of marketing for Zep Retail. “Zep’s commercial-strength reputation comes from its history of making products that clean the most highly contaminated areas – hospitals, airplanes, schools, hotels, public bathrooms, and professional sports locker rooms. Zep has the unique ability to bring the power of commercial-grade products to consumers.”

“Prosumers,” or consumers who are interested in cleaning as effectively as professionals, have known for years that the Zep brand is synonymous with serious cleaning. With the growing awareness and desire for cleanliness and improved hygiene, prosumers are increasingly turning to professional strength cleaning products from Zep.

“Certain Zep products are capable of disinfecting both enveloped and non-enveloped viruses, which is the EPA recommended mix for fighting Ebola,” said Dr. Suhail Massad, Vice President of Research & Development.

The study found that by the age of seven, children exposed to more of these chemicals had IQ’s that were more than six points lower than children exposed to lower levels of the chemicals.

Phthalates make plastics more flexible and harder to break. These plasticizers are also good at helping chemicals carry a particular scent.

The material is found in a wide variety of things people use every day, like the containers you use to store food or heat it up in the microwave. Phthalates are also in:

    • air fresheners
    • dryer sheets
    • shampoos
    • cosmetics

The Environmental Protection Agency estimates over 470 million pounds of phthalates are produced each year.

Phthalate exposure is widespread in the United States, according to research done in 2009 in the Fourth National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals. Women had much higher rates of exposure. That’s because they used more products with phthalates undefined products like soaps, shampoos, cosmetics and body washes.

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. -- "My floors are very important to me. The dust is really hard to keep up out here," Carolyn Boehmer said.

She was hoping to have her floor tile inside her Litchfield Park home cleaned.

"Saltillo tile, I’m learning lots about it. It's very delicate, it's very porous, and you have to have it sealed to protect it quite a bit," she said.

So, Boehmer went online and found a Groupon for a tile cleaning ...

    Flu

The CDC has warned of the possibility of a severe flu season due to circulation of the H3N2 strain of influenza A, which has been associated with worse health issues in the past. Unfortunately, only about half of the flu samples provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have been matched to the vaccine.

"Immediate vaccination for anyone still unvaccinated this season," and recommend "prompt treatment with antiviral drugs for people at high risk of complications who develop flu," noted CDC advisors.

Everyone over the age of 6 months should receive the seasonal flu vaccine, according to health officials.

Those at higher risk for the seasonal flu include children under the age of 5, adults 65 and older, pregnant women and those with certain health conditions including asthma, diabetes, kidney, heart or lung disease.
If you notice any of the following symptoms, including sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, fever, cough, body aches, headache or chills, seek medical advice and get checked out.

Recent evidence suggests that antiviral drugs against the flu are more effective when taken in the first 48 hours following symptoms.

iRobot's Roomba 870 (left) will have new competition next year from Dyson's 360 Eye (right). Source: iRobot, Dyson.

With Dyson set to launch its first-ever robotic vacuum next year, you'd think the folks atiRobot Corporation would be sweating bullets today. Dubbed the "360 Eye," Dyson promises its slick-looking machine will have "the strongest suction of any robot vacuum."

Home Robots currently serve as the primary driver of iRobot's growth amid an increasingly difficult environment for defense spending. And within that, Roomba alone generates a whopping 85% of iRobot's total sales. But while iRobot has faced dozens of ambitious competitors since introducing its first Roomba more than 12 years ago, none enjoy the same levels of spirited innovation and consumer confidence as Dyson.

iRobot management claims it's relatively unconcerned. In fact, iRobot actually appearsexcited for Dyson's impending entry into its core market.

Speaking at the NASDAQ OMX 31st Investor Program earlier this week, iRobot CFO Alison Dean gave three reasons why iRobot isn't worried:

    1. This isn't a stealth attack

This is something we expected. [Dyson] has been vocal about the fact they've been working on a robotic vacuum cleaner for many years. In fact, we understand they were ready to launch one a few years ago, and pulled it at the last minute for reasons we're not

Fairfield Business Owner Ordered to Pay $28K+ for Failing to Clean Property

A judge has ordered a Fairfield business owner to pay the town more than $28,000 for not cleaning up his property over the last few months.

He still faces a week in jail, too.

Robert Dale owns Maine 201 Antiques.

Earlier this year, he was court-ordered to clean up the yard in front of the business and bring the building up to code by the middle of March.

A judge agreed with the town Dale still hasn’t done that, despite numerous extensions.

The $28,369 penalty covers fines, court fees and legal fees.

Dale was previously sentenced to a week in jail over the issue, too.

The town’s lawyer says the judge could decide whether to enforce that at a hearing in January.

MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. — First Lt. Dawn Sanderson, a 25-year-old nuclear officer who works 24-hour shifts in the Air Force's underground missile-launch command posts, admits that there is a funny smell down there. "It's not even a bad smell, it's just a different smell," she says. "My wife says she can smell it on my clothes," said Capt. Derek Arnholtz, another Air Force launch officer at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota. "It's a brine smell," said Maj. John Hundley, who said he believes the faint odor derives from the salt solution used in the antiquated climate-control system.
