There are many important things to consider when hiring a cleaning company.  This person or company will be relied upon to perform, basic yet very critical functions when it comes to cleaning your home and keeping it safe.  If you do a basic internet search, you'll see all types of ads; some might not even seem like a cleaning company!  While no one really gets a four year degree, there are many respected associations that show a person or company takes their craft serious.  We believe three important things to consider are experience and training, professionalism and a robust service offering.

Let's take a look at training and experience.  When it comes to cleaning your home, you don't want to have to show the technician where the hot water is.  There are many different variables in a home that must be considered and you need someone that knows there way around.  Also, there are dangerous chemicals that are used that can potentially be lethal.  If you are choosing someone to clean your home, you have to depend on them to work safe and keep your family safe.  This, takes us to professionalism.

Professionalism is the next big thing to consider when choosing a cleaning person or company.  Just think, this person might pickup your dirty underwear or see what's in your bedroom drawers.  We don't want someone that might try and take pictures or worse yet, take something they aren't supposed to.  When you reach out to schedule an appointment for a cleaning, evaluate how they sound on the phone.  Is this a person you want in your house?  Cleaning up behind your kids and making sure the baby is touching safe, cleaned surfaces?  While knowing what to do is important, knowing how to go about that professionally is equally important.

Lastly, a cleaning service should offer a full service option when it comes to cleaning your home.  Not just sweep, mop, vacuum collect payment.  A good cleaning company will set up a schedule and rotate a deep more thorough cleaning.  There also might be a time that you have guests coming over and want special attention to the family room or bathrooms.

In conclusion, when you're looking for a cleaning company, find a professional.  There are many variables that are equally important even for something as simple as mixing cleaning chemicals or wiping down a food bearing surface.  If you need help locating a nearby professional, you can look here on the IJCSA website.  As a fellow member, I'm confident any other company will have the same excellent service and communication that is taught throughout their certification process.

The Importance of cleaning employees & staff knowing about bloodborne pathogens is vital. 5,250 workers died on the job (3.5 per 100,000 full-time equivalent workers) — on average, more than 100 a week or more than 14 deaths every day. In more than four decades, OSHA and state partners, coupled with the efforts of employers, safety and health professionals, unions, and advocates, have had a dramatic effect on workplace safety. Worker deaths in America are down-on average, from about 38 worker deaths a day in 1970 to 14 a day in 2017. Worker injurie are down-from 10.9 incidents per 100 workers in 1972 to 2.8 per 100 in 2017 (OSHA). Enforcing Educational awareness, and Proper Protocol of cleaning employees & staff knowing about bloodborne pathogens is vital.

The enforcement of educational awareness ensure that workers receive regular training that covers all elements of the standard including, but not limited to: information on bloodborne pathogens and diseases, methods used to control occupational exposure, hepatitis B vaccine, and medical evaluation and post-exposure follow-up procedures. Employers must offer this training on initial assignment, at least annually thereafter, and when new or modified tasks or procedures affect a worker’s occupational exposure. Also, HIV and HBV laboratory and production facility workers must receive specialized initial training, in addition to the training provided to all workers with occupational exposure. Workers must have the opportunity to ask the trainer questions.  Also, training must be presented at an educational level and in a language that workers understand (OSHA). All of the requirements of OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens standard can be found in Title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations at 29 CFR 1910.1030. The standard’s requirements state what employers must do to protect workers who are occupationally exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM), as defined in the standard. That is, the standard protects workers who can reasonably be anticipated to encounter blood or OPIM as a result of doing their job duties. (OSHA)

Proper Protocol of cleaning employees & staff knowing about bloodborne pathogens by implementing the use of universal precautions. Treating all human blood and OPIM as if known to be infectious for bloodborne pathogens. Identify and use engineering controls. These are devices that isolate or remove the bloodborne pathogens hazard from the workplace. They include sharps disposal containers, needles, and safer medical devices, such as sharps with engineered sharps-injury protection and needleless systems. Identify and ensure the use of work practice controls. These are practices that reduce the possibility of exposure by changing the way a task is performed, such as appropriate practices for handling and disposing of contaminated sharps, handling specimens, handling laundry, and cleaning contaminated surfaces and items. Provide personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, gowns, eye protection, and masks. Employers must clean, repair, and replace this equipment as needed. Provision, maintenance, repair and replacement are at no cost to the worker. (OSHA)

Bloodborne pathogens are infectious microorganisms present in blood that can cause disease in humans. These pathogens include, but are not limited to, hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), the virus that causes AIDS. Workers exposed to bloodborne pathogens are at risk for serious or life-threatening illnesses; therefore, it is important for cleaning employees & staff knowing about bloodborne pathogens

Bloodborne pathogens are infectious microorganisms in human blood that can cause disease in humans. Workers in cleaning business need to know  about  bloodborne  pathogens  because they are at the risk for exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

In order to reduce or eliminate the hazards of occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens, an employer must implement an exposure control plan for the worksite with details on employee protection measures.

Employers must offer bloodborne pathogen training to employees on their initial assignment and whenever new or modified tasks or procedures could affect a worker's risk of occupational exposure. Those who complete the training must be re-trained annually to renew their bloodborne pathogen certification.

Having a Green cleaning program in your business will be of great benefits. It will broaden your customer margin and also reduce the use of harsh chemicals and daily exposures. Green cleaning is environmental friendly and many customers may prefer this choice of cleaning service for personal reason.

Green cleaning may be more common for residential clients. Since residential may not required heavy duty cleaning as often as commercial sites. Some simple steps to green cleaning could start as simple as implementing door mats to reduce traffic soil, using microfiber clothes since it is reusable. These simple steps will go a long way and friendly to our staff and the environment.

Employees who clean are the first defense for public health. They put their lives as well as those of their family in arms way to ensure the larger group is protected. Due to closeness of these employees to bloodborne pathogens while performing their duties it's important they are made aware of the dangers of the most important public health job that they are performing. Potentially infectious body fluids that cleaning employees come into contact with include blood, saliva, vomit, urine, semen or vaginal secretions. With any cleaning being performed employees should keep these in mind.

There are a number of bloodborne pathogens that these employees need to be aware of and they include, Malaria, EBV (mono), Syphilis, Hepatitis B(HBV), Hepatitis C(HCV), and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). These diseases have devastated communities and hence the need to know how to better protect themselves when they are cleaning. Some of these pathogens take a long time before someone even knows that they were exposed to it.

Bloodborne pathogen awareness helps the cleaners know what PPE and how to wear or remove them for maximum protection. Proper wearing of PPE will be the best protection against contracting these diseases. Giving the knowledge to employees is the right thing to do as an employer. As a business you also want to protect your reputation as a best place to work. Its our responsibility to make sure that the employees are taken care of.
