The risk to bloodborne pathogen exposure is important to understand in both our professional and personal lives.  Ensuring that our employees receive training on how to handle potentially contaminated materials and cleanup of bodily fluid release in a safe manner is extremely important to our organization.  We strive to illustrate our commitment to our employee's safety by ensuring that each employee has the opportunity to get their questions answered so that when presented with this situation they are confident in their ability to respond.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's "Universal Precaution" approach should be the standard of each employee in our organization.  Understanding that when walking into a situation the employee should assume that they are at risk to exposure to bloodborne pathogens is the best way to ensure that the employee will take every precaution to minimize transmission.

The protective practices illustrated in this training provide a foundation for the mindset our team will adopt around the handling of bloodborne pathogen exposure.  Each employee will be expected to own the responsibility of minimizing transmission to bloodborne pathogens by following the personal safety guidelines in this training.  Each individual taking that responsibility ensures that the team will have a safety focused mindset and take active roles in mitigating bloodborne pathogen transmission.

As a Surgical Tech the practices we use in healthcare environments can be used in other non-healthcare areas such as Residential and Commercial Cleaning areas as well. Using proper cleaning techniques  by cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces by reducing the spread of germs in medical environments.

In commercial building, germs can travel from the elevator room to the main office in a few times.  Same scenario for residential home, germs can travel from the main entrance door to the living home or the kitchen. Using proper cleaning techniques can reduce the spread of germs and viruses in residential and commercial environments.

Even though hospitals and other medical facilities require specific cleanings that does not mean you can not apply them for non medical facilities.

The IJCSA gives his members or professional certified companies customized cleaning at your home or business. Professional who can implement the standards used in medical facilities to all cleaning situations.

The harmful effects of using everyday cleaning chemicals as compared to using natural green products cannot be overemphasized. It is important to note that green cleaning is the process of choosing cleaning products that are better/safer for both humans and the environment. Thus, it becomes very imperative to know that switching from conventional everyday cleaning chemicals to green cleaning products enhances good health for cleaning workers and facility occupants, protects environment against pollution, and supports customer satisfaction at all levels. Retrieved from: https://www.cultivatingcapital.com/green-cleaning/

Another effect of using of harmful everyday cleaning consumable products as against switching to natural green cleaning ones is that employees working in the non GCC tends to susceptible to sickness especially terminal diseases like cancer/respiratory health issues as they are often exposed to carcinogens and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) from the harmful chemicals being used for cleaning.

The risk of high cost of business operations is more among cleaning companies that are using everyday harmful chemicals as compared to the companies that have GCC status/switched to natural green cleaning products. This is because the non GCC company workers tends to be reporting sick more due to the chemical hazards they are being exposed to, hence manhour losses or staff attrition rate tends to be high.

There is risk of contract losses on the part of companies that are still using conventional harmful chemicals due to poor quality service, inefficiency, poor training, and endangering of the lives of facility occupants.

The impact on surrounding landfills relative to non-biodegradable materials/products being used by companies that are yet to attain GCC status is high as compared to companies that are already GCC as most of their materials/consumable products are readily biodegradable.

The unsustainable impact on the environment regarding the companies still using traditional harmful chemicals as compared to those that are using natural green products cannot be equitable because while the former endangers lives and the environment, the latter protects and sustains lives and environment against pollution and chemical hazards.

OSHA standards for bloodborne pathogens and personal protective equipment require employers to protect workers from occupational exposure to infectious agents. The Bloodborne Pathogen standard applies when workers have accidental occupational exposure to human blood or other potentially infectious materials.

Employers and workers should be familiar with several key approaches to infection control, including universal precautions and standard precautions.

Universal precautions, originally recommended by the CDC in the 1980s, was introduced as an approach to infection control to protect workers from HIV, HBV, and other bloodborne pathogens in human blood and certain other body fluids, regardless of a patients’ infection status. Universal Precautions is an approach to infection control in which all human blood and certain human body fluids are treated as if they are known to be infectious.

Standard Precautions, introduced in 1996 in the CDC/Healthcare Infection Control. SP includes hand hygiene; the use of certain types of PPE based on anticipated exposure; safe injection practices; and safe management of contaminated equipment and other items in the patient environment. SP is applied to all clients and patients even when they are not known or suspected to be infectious.

Keeping yourself, employees and customers safe is critical to having a healthy working environment.
