Most of the chemicals commonly found in conventional cleaning products have ingredients that can cause respiratory and dermatological problems for those who use the products and for those who occupy the facilities where they are used. Green cleaning programs are designed to move away from these products to ones that are less harmful to employees, building occupants and the environment.

Much attention has been focused on the cleaning products, but green cleaning involves more than just selecting green products. A successful green cleaning program requires that the right products be used in the proper quantity and that the recommended cleaning procedures for the job are followed. It requires that employees be properly trained. And it requires that building occupants understand what a green cleaning program is and what it means to them.Everyone benefits from a green clean program. The customer, business owner etc... I believe it's a win-win situation.

My company, Radiance Office Care, strives to be a business that not only fits naturally within its environment, but upholds highest values of service both to our customers and our workers.
Having worked in various office environments myself, I remember having to wait an hour or longer to enter the restroom after it’s been cleaned, otherwise I would start coughing uncontrollably and feeling the burning in my throat. Even back then, I would talk to the cleaning crew about the harmful effects the cleaning chemicals had on their health. Their response was always, “What can we do? This is what they give us, and we need a job!”

At Radiance Office Care, our workers will be furnished with all-natural cleaning solutions that make good use of baking soda, lemon and vinegar. When commercial products are needed, these shall be obtained from green-certified manufacturers such as “Planet”, “Seventh Generation” or “Ecos”. Since many of my workers are Spanish speakers, we shall provide a free company-wide educational framework that will teach them English, green practices, and other skills necessary for their general livelihood and growth within our company. Our workers’ health is our foremost concern, since they are the ones getting the greatest degree of exposure to the cleaning products.

Equally as important is the degree to which a cleaning product will impact the environment. When effective, and often cheaper, cleaning solutions are readily available, I really do not see the point in using products that are harmful on so many levels! I deeply believe that the love and care we put into our environments, natural and indoor, will radiate back to us, and remind us on some level that we are all a part of this very community, this very place where we live and work.

I believe that the people who work in the offices which we will have the privilege to clean will feel the difference in their environment. There will no longer be caustic chemical smells and air pollution that irritates their eyes, lungs and mucous membranes. Office residents will feel more healthy and focused on their work. Extra attention and care with which we treat the work places will make everyone feel more welcome, at ease, and appreciated, and increase productivity and satisfaction at work. As a result, the company will benefit from fewer missed days and greater commitment from its workers.

Finally, the green education that will be made available to our workers will be eventually extended to general audience via newsletters and facebook posts. It is our greatest wish to honor and better the place where we live and work, and do our part in supporting green environments.

    Hi,

I am new to the cleaning business, and i am going to begin using green cleaning products at every job. I think this will be very beneficial to our company and our customers.

We are going to use simple green all purpose cleaner, and simple greens bathroom cleaner. They seem to be great choices, and will allow us to effectively start marketing ourselves as a green company.

There is no doubt many strategies to carpet cleaning but I believe the key is to use tested and proven strategies and techniques that will work in harmony with your business and the customers home. Having a good strategy will be what can set you apart from the competition and be the factor in leaving a lasting impression on a customer by removing troubled spots/soils other companies were not able to remove too great customer service the client cant help but talk about.

Cleaning programs and strategies I believe will be most beneficial to my company will be those that give me the best chances to remove troubled areas in carpet or upholstery that are continuously an eye sore and bothering the client. I.E. high traffic areas, common spill from food and drinks, and pet stains which we all know are some of the most frustrating and common soils which surprising enough some companies, who I have actually been a part of were not able to remove most of the time which is a big reason why I started my company, to provide a more efficient service that i can be proud of the and the customer cant help but use me again and again. To achieve these goals you must have a solid strategy/program that keeps you prepared and ready for any situation.

Our company takes advantage of many of its processes by incorporating recycling and reusing programs to maintain high standards of our green business. It is important to us. All chemicals and solution bottles are made with a high ratio of recyclable material and in turn is recyclable itself. Each month, on average, we recycle 15 pounds of plastics from our cleaning bottles alone. Our office uses a water dispenser to reduce plastic waste from disposable water bottles, but filling a thermos or coffee cup we have not only save money, but also positively reduced our waste. When bottles are used (out in the field) we have recycle containers at the office at the ready; this practice has allowed us to recycle just under 10 pounds of plastics. We do our best to have a paperless office. We reuse note pads and write on both sides. It took some time to get used to, but we have saved on trash and actual purchasing of the office materials. When applicable, and a cleaning solution has a “refill” option, we will opt for the low footprint refill bottle and follow instruction to mix in the original spray dispenser.

95% of our office set up, including a mini fridge, with the energy star logo and have automatic “turn off” features and sleep functions. We are not at the stage we can switch out our lighting, but we have slowly began to introduce LED, new generation bulbs, to reduce energy consumption. In addition, and many thanks to the Sarasota County Business Partner Program, we were able to install a new “green surge protector” which, let’s say on a computer station, recognizes that the computer is not drawing power and automatically turns off power to three other plugs. In this case we attached a printer and two monitors, which when not in use should not even use the trickle feature, further reducing power draw.

All of the products we use for business are certified green, organic, and / or green seal products. Not only do the homes and business we visit benefit from this, but so does the cleaning staff; being around chemicals and poison warnings should, in our opinion, be avoided. It is better for our health and our environment.

More and more facility managers are making it a requirement for a company to be green clean certified. Being a green clean service is becoming an industry standard. Although many companies do offer their green clean services they do not implement it into all their clients and accounts. Green clean and eco friendly chemicals should be used by the industry as a whole. Please view the Green Clean directory to view a list of current companies who are certified in green cleaning.
