Blood borne pathogens are infectious microorganisms in human blood that have the potential to cause disease in human. One way these pathogens may be transmitted is through needle sticks or other sharps. Pathogens include but are not limited to hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis C (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Some pathogens can impact organs and other areas of the body causing harm and dysfunction.

It is extremely important that cleaning employees and staff are continuously trained in the correct handling methods and protocol. They need to take precautions when dealing in environments where there is exposure to these pathogens. For example staff needs to know to escalate to their supervisor immediately if they have been exposed. They should never reuse towels or sponges, they should wash hands properly and handle contaminated laundry as directed. Ways staff can protect themselves include wearing personal protective gear, gloves, goggles and masks as needed. Unless otherwise directed, it should be assumed that all blood is contaminated and follow the protocol for cleanup.

A written exposure control plan must be kept updated and should be shared with employees. When an exposure occurs OSHA mandates that certain records are kept for three years. The overall goal is to ensure that everyone follows the protocol when dealing with blood borne pathogens and know what to do if there's a problem or issue.

To implement green cleaning into my company would give me an edge over most of the competitors because offering a more healthier and environmental service is highly acceptable with most business and homeowners.

Promotion and marketing is the key to gathering customers and to promote the use of products that is less toxic, environmental friendly, and can do the job just as good as the toxic chemical products will definitely draw a crowd.

The main objective will be to make sure that the customer has a clear understanding of what they are using in their homes, and the alternative of using a product that can reduce the health risk they may encounter by using those toxic chemical products.

Now more than ever it is imperative to not only practice effective cleaning methods, but the methods taught in the IJCSA Medical Cleaning Certification are vital in not only creating effectively clean and disinfected healthcare facilities, these methods are vital to residencies and commercial properties as well. Effective cleaning methods are more important than ever and can be and should be implemented beyond healthcare facilities.

These methods and practices are proven effective and therefore it only makes sense to take this knowledge beyond the healthcare field. The training talks in depth about disinfecting high touch surfaces, these surfaces can be found throughout your home, business, the local grocery store and beyond. Why not take these same practices that are safe and effective for healthcare facilities and apply them elsewhere? The only thing there is to lose, is the danger of these various germs and viruses.

Hand hygiene is critical with regards to maintaining a clean and safe environment. It's a practice that is argued to be one of the most unrated, yet one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs and viruses. Good hand hygiene needs to happen before, during (throughout the cleaning process) and after cleaning/disinfecting any given facility, residency and the like.

Now more than ever it's important to protect yourself and those around you from harmful germs and viruses. This protection isn't just necessary in healthcare facilities, it's necessary for your home, business, car, etc. The spread of harmful germs and viruses can end with you and the training you need can begin here. Furthermore if you're looking for a reliably trained professional, look no further. Medical cleaning practices can be and should be applied anywhere. These methods are proven to be effective and will be a great line of defense anywhere cleaning is necessary.

You are required by law to provide all employees with training on being exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials OPIM if you work with or around bloodborne pathogens.

What are bloodborne pathogens you may ask. They are microorganisms that can be found in human blood and can cause diseases, including hepatitis B (HBV) hepatitis C (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Needle stick injuries are the most common but are not limited to just these. Other examples are if you ingest or allow a cut to come in contact with: bodily fluid. Vomit, Blood, Saliva, nasal discharge and tears. These fluids can be seen and readily accessible but some are hidden in garbage, sheets, pillows, etc. and employees must be trained in order to look out for the dangers they may face everyday at their jobs.

To protect employees OSHA has developed a Bloodborne pathogen standard and must be adhered to for the safety of all involved.

Employers must have a post exposure procedure in place at all times. This must be enacted within the first 24 hours and must include. Reporting, immediate flushing with water, Dr. examination, medication and follow up.
