Of course we would all like to think that when we go to the hospital for whatever reason whether it be for personal reasons or to visit a family member, or going to the doctors office, we would all like to thing that these places are extremely clean.  This is where proper cleaning and disinfecting practices come into play, regardless if its a patients room or even the waiting are, these high traffic areas get cleaned multiple times a day every day.

But what about residential or commercial areas, these areas are still high touch surface areas and can still possess the same harmful germs and viruses that medical facilities carry.  Just think about all the people that come in and out of commercial areas, sneezine, coughing, blowing their nose, touching all the door handles, and other high touch surface areas.  The same goes for residential areas, when you go out in public and you touch other surfaces, money, shaking peoples hands, your bringing all these things back with you to your residence.

One way to start implementing medical cleaning practices into other residential and commercial cleaning is to start using hospital-grade disinfectants and other registered cleaning products. Not only by introducing better cleaning products, but also better cleaning practices, such as regularly cleaning high touch surface areas and areas that don't often get cleaned at all.  Of course good handwashing practices goes a long way when it comes to preventing the spread of viruses and germs.

If you would ever like to find out more information on cleaning techniques or if you need a directory to help you search or locate a specific cleaning crew or location, or other service, you can always visit ijcsa.org for all your cleaning needs.

Maintaining clean and hygienic environments is essential, especially in spaces shared by multiple people, such as homes, offices, and healthcare facilities. Applying medical-grade cleaning techniques, typically used in healthcare settings, into residential and commercial cleaning situations can elevate sanitation standards and create safer spaces. These practices help reduce the spread of harmful germs, viruses, and bacteria, contributing to healthier environments for all occupants.

One key component of medical cleaning is the use of hospital-grade disinfectants and the focus on thorough sanitation, particularly on high-touch surfaces. Areas like door handles, light switches, and shared office equipment in commercial settings are common breeding grounds for germs. By incorporating medical-grade cleaning solutions and regularly disinfecting these surfaces, businesses can eliminate the risk of contamination from viruses like MRSA and norovirus. This approach is equally valuable in residential spaces, where kitchen and bathroom surfaces can harbor harmful pathogens. A more rigorous cleaning process can significantly improve health outcomes for those using these spaces.

In commercial environments, the risk of cross-contamination is higher due to constant foot traffic and the frequent interaction between people. Schools, offices, and retail establishments are particularly vulnerable, and implementing medical cleaning practices is key to minimizing the spread of germs. For example, in schools, adopting these practices can reduce the transmission of illnesses like the flu, creating a healthier environment for both students and faculty. In business settings, this approach ensures that employees stay healthier, reducing sick days and improving productivity.

To successfully implement medical cleaning practices in residential or commercial spaces, partnering with professional cleaning services is vital. These cleaning companies specialize in medical-grade disinfection and have the expertise to maintain high standards of hygiene. For those seeking reliable cleaning professionals, the Janitorial Service Directory on IJCSA is a valuable resource to connect with certified companies that specialize in healthcare cleaning. By working with trusted cleaning experts, businesses and homeowners ensure their spaces are clean, safe, and healthy for all who occupy them.

The importance of medical cleaning practices is especially important in medical settings, it's a given that viruses and germs are all around us, however medical settings need special attention when it comes to cleaning. Many advancements have been made in cleaning the medical field, for example, many hospitals use UV lights to clean hospital rooms on top of the more traditional methods, UV lights have been shown to be effective disinfectant. These practices are extremely relevant to maintaining a clean and safe medical environment, since these particular environments have higher standards since they're taking care of patients.

We can even implement these standards into residential space cleaning, for example; disinfecting surfaces and door handles and high touchpoints, I'm not saying we should bombard houses with Lysol 24/7, but it's beneficial to raise standards to keep places outside of medical facilities clean just like medical facilities. If we raise standards outside medical facilities we can have even cleaner environments at work and at home and reduce transmission of viruses and germs.

When it comes to commercial environments, such as offices, restaurants, and supermarkets. We are talking about different locations but all these places have high traffic and lots of touchpoints. Many of these places also have customers and that requires additional care and attention. Increased disinfection of touch points is helpful, on top of improved ventilation of environments, we can take notes of what hospitals do and we can implement theses methods in our homes or businesses.

To reiterate what I said earlier, we all must take great care in how we care for facilities, even if they aren't medical in nature. We can all learn a great amount from how hospitals take care of their facilities and adapt those methods at many different places. We all owe it to staff, customers and even ourselves to create a clean and safe environment for us all to live and work in.

Becoming Green Cleaning Certified is one of the best decisions I can make for both my business and my professional growth. More clients are looking for cleaning services that use eco-friendly, non-toxic products, and having this certification sets me apart as someone who values health, safety, and sustainability. It builds trust with customers and gives my business a competitive advantage, helping me attract clients who want a safer, greener cleaning solution. By getting certified through the International Janitorial Cleaning Services Association (IJCSA), I can show that I’m committed to using the best green cleaning practices available.

One of the main reasons I want to implement green cleaning is to protect people from the harmful chemicals found in traditional cleaning products. Many of those products contain harsh ingredients that can cause respiratory problems, skin irritation, and other health issues. By using non-toxic, biodegradable cleaners, I can provide a safer environment for my clients, my employees, and myself. This is especially important in places like schools, medical facilities, and offices where air quality can affect people’s health and productivity. Being Green Cleaning Certified means I understand how to clean effectively without leaving behind harmful residues, which makes my services even more valuable.

Beyond just helping people, green cleaning is also better for the environment. Harsh chemicals from traditional cleaners can end up in our water supply, polluting rivers and harming wildlife. By switching to sustainable, plant-based cleaning solutions, I can reduce waste and contribute to a healthier planet. I also want to focus on reducing water consumption, using reusable materials, and properly disposing of waste, all of which are important steps in creating a more sustainable cleaning business.

Another major benefit of being certified is getting listed in the IJCSA Green Cleaning Directory, which will help potential clients find my business. More people are actively looking for green cleaning professionals, and this directory gives me the chance to connect with customers who value environmentally responsible cleaning. Whether it’s growing my business, improving my skills, or making a positive impact on the world, becoming Green Cleaning Certified is a smart investment in my future.

Janitors and cleaning companies are vital to daily life, keeping spaces clean, safe and functional. They maintain schools, offices and public areas supporting health and maintain clean and safe places for the public. Janitors are not only responsible for handling trash and tidying, they sanitize and disinfect areas to keep the public safe from germs and contaminates.

In commercial cleaning, janitors uphold business standards and follow safety guidelines. IJCSA offers classes to help train janitors on how to implement these safety and business standards. The IJCSA directory connects companies with skill and certified professionals. The director gives the client to search for a company in their local area. https://www.ijcsa.org/Janitorial-Service-Directory-Find-A-Janitorial-Service-JanitorialServices

Beyond cleaning, janitors and cleaning companies reduce the spread of germs and preserve buildings which improve our lives. The IJCSA highlights their value, ensuring access to reliable staff and companies. The janitors work is essential, but sadly often overlooked and under appreciated.

Cleaning staff play an important role in keeping workplaces, hospitals, and public areas safe and sanitary. Because they handle waste, clean spills, and disinfect surfaces, they may come in contact with blood or other bodily fluids that could carry harmful pathogens like hepatitis B and HIV. It is important that the cleaning staff has a clear understanding on how the pathogens spread and how to protect themselves which helps the staff work safely.

Cleaning employees must follow proper procedures, such as wearing gloves, using desinféctanos, and disposing of waste correctly. OSHA’s training teaches cleaning staff to handle bodily fluids properly and how to use the right protective equipment and cleaning techniques. By following the guidelines, they reduce the rush of spreading infections to themselves and others.

Knowing hoe to respond to an exposure incident is also very important. If a cleaning worker accidentally come into contact with contaminated fluid, they must act quickly by washing the area, reporting the incident, and seeking medical attention if necessary. With proper training, cleaning staff can confidently handle these situations and help create a safer, healthier environment for everyone.

Healthcare facilities are among the most regulated types of buildings when it comes to cleanliness and compliance. For this reason, medical cleaning is a service that requires adequate training, preparation, and application. From cleaning medical offices to terminal cleaning operating rooms, the practices that a company or facility implements can make the difference between life and death. Fortunately, this doesn't have to be a daunting task. Organizations like the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) have regulations and practices that ensure your facility stays unblemished - even at a microbial level.

To understand just how important cleaning and disinfecting is, let's examine the various pathogens that are common in a healthcare setting. OSHA has determined that healthcare facilities are an area of occupational exposure, that is: 'reasonably anticipated skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials that may result from the performance of an employee's duties.' (29 CFR 1910.1030(b)) This means that these facilities pose a significant risk of infection, especially from bloodborne pathogens. These can include viruses like Hepatitis B (HBV), Hepatitis C (HCV), and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) which eventually develops into Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). These are only a few of the potential pathogens that wait in blood and other potentially infectious materials (OPIM).

Compliant cleaning protocols are crucial for tackling these biological threats. While there is too much information to discuss in this article, one can begin learning more about medical cleaning by learning OSHA's bloodborne pathogen standard, needlestick prevention standard, hazardous chemical safety standard, and other relevant OSHA and CDC rules and regulations. Being aware of what cleaning chemicals to use in different applications is also an important facet of developing a compliant cleaning program. the IJCSA Medical Cleaning Certification (MCC) is a great resource to obtain the knowledge you need to get started in this field. The IJCSA Business Directory is also a great resource to find companies in your area that can assist with medical cleaning and compliance.

To summarize, healthcare cleaning requires an attentive mind, adequate equipment, and compliant procedures to be successful. While there are many risks of exposure in the healthcare industry, a well planned cleaning schedule can poise your patients and your facility to thrive for years to come.

Bloodborne pathogens, the most prevalent of which include HBV (Hepatitis B) and HIV-AIDS, are dangerous and sometimes unavoidable. From loose needles and blood spills to laundry, these pathogens pose risk to cleaners of all industries. However, there are many precautions and policies enforced by OSHA to ensure that even in the case of unavoidable contact, cleaning staff are empowered to respond calmly and responsibly to keep themselves and others safe.

In the unfortunate cases of direct blood-to-blood contact like human bites and used needle pricks, cleaners should follow company and OSHA procedures for decreasing infection risk. These procedures include short and long term responsibilities for both the company and the employee, including proper documentation and health monitoring respectively.

There are many precautions cleaning staff take, including treating all blood and bodily fluids as infectious. Additionally, cleaners should use approved, undamaged personal protective equipment (PPE) and change it after every potential encounter with bloodborne pathogens. These potential encounters can be anything from changing used linens to mopping a blood spill. Cleaners may not always be aware of coming into contact with these pathogens, which is why it is important for them to change PPE, sanitize equipment, and wash their hands every time they finish a designated area to keep themself safe and stop the spread. Stopping the spread of bloodborne pathogens is an important responsibility that cleaners of all kinds undertake. By understanding and following safety regulations, cleaners ensure that not only are they as safe as they can be, but that the people around them are as well.
