Many millennials are still reluctant to use a housecleaning service themselves. It can be seen as a an unnecessary luxury, or something that’s easier to just do yourself. But there are some who swear by their regular house cleanings.

It can be easy to see why: With work weeks growing longer, it can be hard to find time to do a good deep clean yourself, even with the aid of modern appliances. “With two dogs and both of us traveling for work, we want to enjoy what little free time we get,” explains Hannah Bowers. A newlywed, Bowers found that many of her friends already employed a cleaning service of some kind. The thing she kept hearing? Having one is a “marriage saver.”

CUPE 543 President Mark Vander Voort speaks to Windsor City Council about outsourcing custodial jobs on January 16, 2017.

Local labour leaders and concerned citizens clashed with Windsor city councillors in an emotional meeting Monday night as a motion to outsource janitorial and caretaking jobs at Huron Lodge Long-Term Care Home narrowly passed.

The decision to sign on with Aramark, an international services company which will take over janitorial duties at the city-run long-term care home, carried in a tight 6-5 vote despite pleas from citizens to keep the contracts local.

Technavio has published a new report on the global industrial floor cleaner market from 2017-2021. (Graphic: Business Wire)

The industrial scrubber segment dominates the global industrial floor cleaner market. These scrubbers are extensively used to clean oil or grease, floor marks, dust particles, and light debris. With the increase in the adoption of technology in cleaning practices, end-users prefer to use natural and eco-friendly products. As these products provide effective results without using chemicals, the market for industrial floor scrubbers is expected to be driven by the rising emphasis on chemical-free cleaning,” says Abhay Sinha, one of the lead analysts at Technavio.

    Self-Clean Using High Heat
The cycle can take 90 minutes to 6 hours, using heat that's 800° F or higher. The door latches shut, ensuring that it can’t be opened while the oven is set to this high temperature. Smoke and a strong odor might occur as the heat breaks down the food soils, leaving ash that easily wipes away with a damp cloth.

“High temperature self-clean is still the most effective of the self-clean methods,” says Tara. "For most ranges with high-temp cleaning, you can choose from a few cleaning times, say from 3, 4, or 4 hours, depending on the level of soil in your oven.”

The case against having your ducts cleaned: Here’s the thing: Dust that settles in your ventilation ducts typically stays there unless disturbed, and is usually harmless. The official advisory of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency concludes: “Duct cleaning has never been shown to actually prevent health problems. Neither do studies conclusively demonstrate that particle ... levels in homes increase because of dirty air ducts.

This is because much of the dirt in air ducts adheres to duct surfaces and does not necessarily enter the living space. ... Moreover, there is no evidence that a light amount of household dust or other particulate matter in air ducts poses any risk to your health.

    TOLEDO, Ohio — Holy Toledo!

A family cleaning the Toledo, Ohio-area home of a relative who recently died stumbled across a live hand grenade from the World War II era.

    Not Released (NR)

Toledo authorities say such finds are becoming more common.

A police spokesman says the bomb squad retrieves old military munitions about once a month.

But he says too often people who discover old grenades or a mortar shell will haul it to the police station.

Police say the best thing to do is call 911.

Janitors who work in Kansas City Public Schools have voted to join a union.

The union vote came earlier this month, when 90 custodians elected to join the Service Employees International Union Local 1, which represents more than 300 workers in the district.

Janitors in Kansas City Public Schools have voted to join a union after the district awarded its custodial services contract to a new company.

The custodians work for the Marcis & Associates janitorial services firm, which earlier this year won a $10 million, three-year contract with the school.

Union members had supported the district’s decision to give the contract to a new company, saying the previous firm did not recognize union workers and that schools had seen a decline in cleanliness amid understaffing.
