Dangerous Severe Thunderstorm Outbreak Unfolds As Tornadoes, Hail Hammer Multiple States

Severe storms raged across parts of the Plains, Midwest and South Tuesday, at their peak, putting more than 10 million people under tornado threat.

Confirmed tornadoes were reported in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Oklahoma and Texas, along with destructive hail as large as grapefruit, and one report estimating a hailstone roughly the size of a coffee mug.

Despite initial, scattered reports of injuries and possible fatalities, emergency crews warned the full scope of the damage was unlikely to be confirmed until morning.
