Bloodborne pathogens are pathogenic micoorganisms that are present in human blood and can cause infections and include: HBV, HBC and HIV. OSHA requires knowledge and application for universal precautions for cleaning companies - it could be life or death. Bodily fluids such as blood, vomit and saliva can contain bloodborne pathogens. According to the CDC, universal precautions says to use PPE to minimize exposure and to treat all fluids as infected.

At all times we must assume that all bodily fluids are contaminated. Always wear the right PPE for the job. Routinely inspect PPE to be sure they are in good condition. PPE includes fask masks, gowns, and gloves. It is important to never eat, drink or smoke in areas that we may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens. Never reuse sponges or towels that have been used to clean up of body fluids.

Always use color-coded and labeled disposal for laundry that is used and contaminated. Must be red or orange if transported to another location and placed into the bag or container within the area that it was used. It is important to use bleach or another EPA approved cleaning agent to thoroughly clean the area. If exposure occurs contact immediate supervisor and they will implement their plan in place. Always remember to wash hands and keep safety at the forefront of your mind!

In the areas I work in it’s very Important to be prepared to come in contact with bloodborne pathogens in many ways.  Often in the confinement’s of the passenger compartments of vehicles where blood an bodily fluids are hard to see.  I wear as much PPE as possible, and I treat everything around me as if it’s contaminated.

When cleaning I make sure I’m not only using the proper chemicals but I have to test on many surfaces to not cause further damages.  In many cases it’s impossible to clean certain items that are large and often heavy with many sharp edges.  Labeling and disposal of these items is very important to prevent others from mistaking it for “normal” trash.

In conclusion always follow the universal precautions, use and inspect your PPE, have and use proper labels, bags ,and containers.  Clean your equipment when done , avoid contact with your mouth ,eyes or cuts and scrapes until you’ve washed and disinfected.  If anything happens follow employers exposure plan.

It is important for cleaning employees and staff to know about bloodborne pathogens because anyone exposed to them are at risk for serious or life-threatening illnesses. Bloodborne pathogens are infectious microorganisms present in blood that can cause disease in humans. The pathogens include hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), the virus that causes AIDS.

Bloodborne Pathogen training and education will ensure that the employee understands how to use safe practices when handling potentially hazardous materials such as blood, vomit, and bodily fluids.  It protects workers who can reasonably be anticipated to come into contact with them as a result of doing their job duties.

Once the employee is trained on bloodborne pathogens, they will understand the employers responsibility to provide them with personal protective equipment, hepatitis vaccinations and post exposure treatment free of charge to them.  They will also understand the steps to take to report a potential exposure to the employer.

Bloodborne pathogens have been around for a very long time. But it has only been within the last several decades that we have made a serious attempt to limit the risk to the public and employees. Careful and proper training is the biggest way we can achieve this.

The common saying is "knowledge is power", and it is at the heart of this debate. The more employees know, the safer they should be. Without proper training and procedures, employees put themselves and their coworkers at risk on a daily basis. If you do not train your employees in bloodborne pathogens you run the risk of them hurting themselves and missing work. And that can cost you big time.

There are several costs associated with an employee being exposed to a bloodborne pathogen. Not only will you have the medical expenses of that employee, but you may have to hire another employee to replace the injured one if he will be out of work for a long time. If you did not provide proper training or written plan, you may be sued by the employee as well.

Bloodborne pathogen procedure's are extremely important in the cleaning business. Especially in today's times. You never really know what you could be touching, so it's always important to wear your safety glasses and disposable gloves and follow proper protocol and make sure all employees have all the equipment and training to protect themselves as well.

Janitors are frequently looked down upon in society. Their job requires dealing with vast amounts of filth and is generally pretty disgusting. But what people fail to realize is that Janitors are the reason you can use a public restroom and feel at peace that it isn't contaminated. Janitors work to serve people and they do just that by providing all of us with clean and sterile washrooms.

Janitors may work in many different places such as hospitals, restaurant, etc. A company I found on the Janitorial Services Directory stated that they mostly do work on Fitness Centers.(https://www.realsolutionsmiami.com). But since Janitorial services have a wide range you can also have companies such as M&L Window Cleaning and Floors, LLC that do all sorts of services such as Carpet Cleaning, Tile and Grout and New Construction Cleaning,

Before dissecting the methods used to clean and address Bloodborne pathogens, it is important to understand the risk being taken. Bloodborne pathogens are microorganism founding the blood that cause diseases such as HIV, HBV, and HCV. These diseases can be spread through bodily fluids, needles, cuts or abrasions. The difference between life and death relies on the employees following OSHA and CDC regulations.

Proper protective practice include but are not limited to wearing gloves, face masks, eye protection, and gowns. Once the employee is prepared to face the situation at hand they must be aware of the future steps. The disposal process is also important to prevent the spread of those bloodborne pathogens. Knowing where and how to dispose of the bodily fluids that may be contaminated. The next part is ensuring the disinfecting of the area where the incident occurred with proper cleaning supplies and detergents.

It is important that employees understand that all facilities must be approached with full caution. At any moment one could be subject to contamination. If an incident were to occur where an employee has been exposed occurs they must know who to go to and how to report it, so that further incidents are avoided.
