Excellent Customer Service is essential that business owner and employees alike comprehend this particular behavior.  As the mentioned in the training video stated “SEC” which stands for Smile, Eye contact and Comment.  It’s necessary to always smile at customers, even when they are having a bad day.

Stay positive at all times. Positive behavior is very contagious and people will begin to reflect on this posture. Listen to the customer and be sensitive to any concerns they may have.

It is important that all of the Work Team that we assemble be adequately instructed in the prevention of Bloodborne Pathogens, always in accordance with OSHA Standard Standards, which will result in an effective reduction and minimization of the potential for occupational exposure to Pathogens.

In this sense, it is necessary to inform our Team that Pathogens are microorganisms present in human blood such as Hepatitis B, HIV, AIDS and that if they come into contact with Blood or Body Fluid through the mucosa such as the mouth, nose , and cuts etc, we are exposed to infection.

We must act with caution to be able to eliminate to the maximum the risk of infectious diseases by exposure, so we must take into account the use of personal protective equipment, not to smoke, nor to eat in the work area, not to recycle the towels used in cleaning, properly disinfecting the equipment used in cleaning, washing hands thoroughly after removing gloves, among others.

We must not forget the use of personal protective equipment, such as gloves, masks, glasses, uniform and any other necessary protective equipment. Likewise, keep us updated on this matter and comply with all the regulations, laws, and administrative procedures that may arise.

There is an old Adage that says "What you don't know can't hurt you ... "This can be very dangerous for a Custodian/Housekeeper in keeping themselves protected in the course of doing their daily duties against bloodborne pathogens and other body fluids.

As a custodian/housekeeper we must always be aware of bloodborne pathogens and how frequently we come in contact with contaminated materials and the danger of contracting many dangerous diseases like HIV,HEP a b c and many others. A custodian must always be informed about the proper PPE  and all the cleaning products they will be using in doing their daily duties.

The Custodian/Housekeeper is like a wall of protection against others being contaminated. This will only be accomplished if and when all Custodians adhere to the rule of Universal Protections and using the correct PPE! Only by working safely can we keep ourselves and others SAFE.

In any industry that involves exposure to blood borne pathogens such as Hepatitis B or HIV the importance of educating your employees is not only important for the safety of your employees but also required by law. Symptoms can sometimes take years to show themselves so reporting as soon as an incident happens is of the upmost importance.

Simple mistakes like cross contaminating dirty linens, not sanitizing your tools after job completion, compressing a trash bag containing needles, or not wearing proper protection such as gloves and eye wear can put an employee in a life threatening situation. Simple contact with employees nose, eyes, mouth or breaks in skin will expose them to these diseases and all incidents should be treated as if they were exposed to contamination.

As an employer it is imperative that you have a exposure plan on hand at all times,  you provide each employee with this plan, you keep a kit on hand for protection, and you provide your employee with proper vaccinations if they request it.

Pathogens from the Greek word ‘pathos’ means disease causing. As the world braces for the next great pandemic our job as sanitation engineers becomes more complicated and even more in demand. New pathogens pose threats that traditional cleaners can’t treat.

Working in an environment of potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens is not just limited to hospitals and nursing homes anymore. Employers have the responsibility to provide a safe work environment but with increased awareness about exposure, you have a responsibility to yourself as an owner to protect your company. Knowing and understanding your cleaning environment is first. Providing proper solvents to neutralized pathogen is next. Spores can’t be sanitized with traditional solvents. Then with increased reactivity of these advanced solvents protecting your employees becomes of even more importance. Chemical exposure to these kind of cleaning solvents is very difficult to treat and leads to loss work days and decreased productivity.
As the world becomes more hyper-sensitive to threats from pathogens our jobs will take on greater importance and place us on the frontline of this war. We must educate ourselves and most importantly protect ourselves.

It is extremely important to be educated in knowing bloodborne pathogens. Bloodborne pathogens are pathogenic microorganisms that are present in human blood and can cause disease in humans.

OSHA, the Occupational Safety And Health Administration, has developed a Bloodborne Pathogen Standard, and it has become a universal precaution.

It recommends that blood and certain body fluids from all patients be considered potentially infectious, and that infection control precautions must be taken to minimize the risk of exposure.

Within the workplace, bloodborne pathogens, or BBPs, can be spread among coworkers through a number of different ways. They can be transferred through blood and infectious bodily fluids by touching your eyes, nose or mouth. They spread through cuts, abrasions, rashes, burns or paper cuts of the skin. It's important to never eat, drink, smoke or apply lip balm in areas where there is a possibility you can be exposed. Blood borne pathogens are all over the place and in areas we least expect. So it is very important to take proper precautions in cleaning and keeping employees safe from serious health risks.
