As we become aware of the environment, we start recycling, we start cutting down on paper and plastic products, and we start thinking more about the harmful chemicals we use for cleaning. With a focus on Green standards, we can make our business more profitable and more environmentally friendly once we become a Green certified janitorial company.  We look to IJCSA.org Green Cleaning Directory for the knowledge on how to become a sustainable company.

Becoming Green certified isn’t difficult as it seems but it is time consuming.  It has lasting benefits as it can help expand our customer base substantially since businesses now-a-days are becoming more interested in Green cleaning and it is beneficial to the employee’s health.

Going Green can help to gain more business with so much importance on our environment and personal health, we will always be sure to proudly display our Green Certification when placing bids. Businesses will appreciate that the time and energy was taken to generate a sustainable, affordable strategy that protects people and future generations.

We will all profit from Green cleaning services. Maintainable practices will help cut down on the number of employee sick days that may result from harmful cleaning chemicals and more involved employees. Employees will begin to appreciate us as employers for being concerned for their health as well as the health of our planet.

Implementing a Green Cleaning Program would be a very lengthy process.  Careful thought and consideration should be put into the program.  First evaluating the existing program would be key.  Next, begin by testing different Green products and equipment such as biodegradable trash bags, cellulose sponges, and cleaning products. Then decide on the procedures that maximize cleaning results while protecting staff and customers. Also, the proper training of the cleaning staff is imperative.

Another very important aspect to implementing a Green Cleaning Program would be explaining to employees as well as the cleaning staff the importance of this program.  The new procedures would be a health benefit as well as improve productivity for all involved.  The moral will improve.  All of this should result in a drop in employee sick days.  Overall a Green Cleaning Program would be beneficial to both the environment and employees, cleaning staff and customers.

Over my 15 years of as a custodial/maintenance worker I have had my fair share of training. Now that I am a owner of a Janitorial Service company (Sterilized Clean Janitorial LLC) I noticed that all my "training" means nothing without any formal certificate to back it up especially when you're a new business. My company already offers basic cleaning services form office cleaning to floor care but I have always missed out on the jobs that need carpet cleaning since that is not my "department" and I do not take jobs I'm not prepared for. But now with a carpet cleaning certification back by an IJCSA Seal of approval, I am more than confident to say my business offers carpet care and more. I know that once the word is out my clientele list will do nothing but grow from now on.  Having Carpet Cleaning in my arsenal will be great and give me that "one stop" shop aspect I'm going for

Bottom Line this was a great investment, Thanks IJCSA FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO BETTER MY BUSINESS.

It is important about Bloodborne pathogens in the cleaning industry because were on the front lines of protecting our clients and the general public .  The knowledge we receive  could be the difference between life and death .

Universal Precautions is great information to have so that we know the proper  procedure when handling  or helping in a unknown situation . (Ex)

Meeting someone they may be infected with a virus like covid-19.

Putting myself or my family members in danger by not knowing or understanding what bloodborne pathogens are could be critical.

Cleaning Staff and Disinfection Experts must know about Pathogenic Microorganisms and how to best equip staff with the knowledge to protect themselves and others.  Pathogens from the blood can lead to a significant reduction in quality of life, that is why it is important to know how to be protects.  Most training programs involve videos, however for most employees it is best when they can talk through the steps using real life examples.

There are many known pathogens that can ultimately lead to death.  HIV can lead to AIDS which is something that isn't talked about as much as it was in the 90s.  Employees must know the risk involved with handling blood is high, and every precaution must be taken because it could be a matter of life and death.

Hepatitis B is a disease that causes failure of the Liver.  It is spread by blood and is another major killer of quality of life.  That is why it is important for healthcare professionals that are readily exposed to blood, to get vaccinated for the virus, in order to severely reduce the risk.  However, most employees of most business do not have a high enough risk to warrant the possible side effects of the vaccination.

Since it is unknown who has blood with pathogenic microorganisms, it is practice to treat all blood as if it had HIV and Hep B.  Universal compliance is okay for hospitals, but labeling of biohazard is required when it is not common practice to treat all material as a biohazard.

Hand washing is a valuable tool in the fight against the spread of pathogens and is highly recommended once PPE is removed.  Employers are responsible for recording exposures and to help where they can to prevent exposure to customers and staff in the conduction of business.

It's imperative that we in the cleaning business understand the importance of being knowledgeable about bloodborne pathogens. Pathogens are disease causing microorganisms present in human blood and most bodily fluids. With the potential for these fluids to carry dangerous pathogens, we must take what's known as universal precautions to protect ourselves from contracting a potentially dangerous and deadly disease.

This means we should always assume that blood and bodily fluids are contaminated and that we should follow proper protective practices when handling a cleanup or exposure. Be aware that we can be most commonly infected when pathogens come in contact with a person's mucus membrane like the nose or mouth, or when there is a break in the skin. This is why wearing proper protective gear is so important.

Taking approved training and being knowledgeable about the hazards of bloodborne pathogens while cleaning is important in helping to create a safe work environment for us and our staff.
