Mandating this bloodborne pathogen safety course is for the protection of you, your family and friends, your co-workers and those that use the facilities that you clean. Taking this course informs you, and your company, of the need for them to provide you with the proper PPE and to provide you with the proper procedures and solutions to be effective in the environment you clean.

Now that you have the proper PPE, procedures and solutions, this course now gives you direction to help keep you safe on the job if you come into contact with items that could cause you to become ill or infected. And, as you go about your job cleaning and disinfecting this course also helps you understand that you are not just "cleaning" but you are making an area safer for those that use the facility.

This course provides you with early warning symptoms to watch out for and what to do if you think you are ill. It also suggests that the written control and exposure plan is available for you to read and that the company should provide you with a copy if asked.

As they said in the video, "a good defense is a thorough offense" and the more you know the safer you are.

It is very important in this current climate that we are especially mindful of the health of our clients. It is our job to provide a clean and safe environment, and using the  proper techniques every time helps ensure the safety of those in our care.

Using the right chemicals and procedures for potentially hazardous materials greatly reduces the risk of spreading infection to our clients and our loved ones.

It is never acceptable to cut corners when pathogens are involved. We have to remember it’s not just our health at risk. We not only owe it to our clients, but we owe it to ourselves to take these risks seriously, and act appropriately.

We all have them, whether they are in our homes, schools, or at our offices. Our daily cleaners or as we all know them janitors or maids are the ones that keep our every day lives going smoothly. Now, don't get me wrong i'm not say that they do it all by themselves but what i am saying without these people our daily lives would be a lot harder and a lot longer.

Your at your math class at Sacramento State and its 12 noon the toilets flood and its a mess everywhere. What do you do? You let the closes janitor on duty and they will go try to resolve the problem at hand. If the problem is bigger then they are trained for they are able to let the school know so they can make a call to have someone come in a fix it. Usually the janitor on hand will have signs, caution tape, plugers, or even a snake to unclog the pipes.

Its 8pm and you have been in the office all day trying to make sure you have you bid typed for your boss by 9 am meeting...who do you hear coming down the hall nobody but Joe the janitor coming to make you smile and tell you a joke and tell you that you got this just like he always has every night for pass 5 years.....Janitors become part of you family part of your heart...they make sure the floors are dry to you don't get hurt. It depends on what kind of building you work in but it could be the difference between touching something or a surface that had a bloodborne pathogen on it or any bodily flood on it and get sick. you couldn't eat in your school or work cafeteria if wasn't for your daily janitorial workers.

Having your carpets cleaned professionally will save you thousands through the coming years. It helps extend the life of your carpet. Over time, dirt, dust, allergens, and other debris accumulate in the carpet and get embedded within the fibers which can eventually cause the fibers to split and deteriorate.

It's better to have certified IJCSA Members to do the job for you, so you would have the assurance that people that would clean your carpets went through training, and most likely wouldn't give you a scare that your carpet my shrink after cleaning.

The importance of knowing about bloodborne pathogens for employees and staff.

Bloodborne pathogens are microorganisms in blood that are infectious and can contaminate others.  Not only is there a need for health care professionals to be educated but also those that are in the cleaning field as well.

HBV, HCV, HIV, needlesticks, and other injuries may expose workers to bloodborne pathogens.

Cleaning companies that service homes, medical offices, hospitals, clinics, dental offices and many other types of buildings may at one time or another come in contact with, or will have to clean an area that may be infected with bloodborne pathogens.

It is essential to know the proper procedures and safety measures that need to be taken in order to prevent one from becoming contaminated.

By completing the OSHA training and passing the test,  you are equipped to protect yourself and others in a contaminated environment.

We live in a dirty world where you never know who is clean and who is not clean.  Bloodborne pathogens are found every where, in the health care field where records are to be kept protected, why we all must practice universal protection.  One must never assume all is bad.  Bloodborne pathogens are microorganisms and bacteria that are infectious that cause diseases in humans.  Some examples of bloodborne pathogens are HIV, Hepatitis B and C.

Employees in the health care field from doctors to the cleaners should do OSHA required training at least twice a year. I feel that it can never be stressed enough on how to prevent yourself from potentially infecting yourself from bloodborne pathogens, whether it be from direct contact or indirect contact.

Wearing proper PPE, gloves, goggles, gown and mask should be worn at all times when it is required in the workplace.  Washing hands is also very important in cleanliness.  All staff need to reminded from time to time about the importance of a cleanliness.  Some facilities hang up posters as reminders how to properly wash your hand and a reminder on how to wear PPE.  Yes there are one out there that can not follow directions.

Needlesticks are also a very important procedure in remembering to use safety precautions.  Needle sticks are no joke.  It is very easy to just stick the needle back on the cap....its difficult to pull needles and not pay attention and stick yourself.  Hind site is to watch how you with draw you needles.

Janitors and Janitorial staff are responsible for cleaning and disinfecting spaces and areas that people use, such as schools and offices. By keeping these spaces clean and disinfected the Janitors and Janitorial staff help maintain a healthy and safe environment for the people that use the facility. In well maintained facilities, the work that Janitors and Janitorial staff perform mostly goes unnoticed.

Washrooms are clean and well stocked with supplies, halls are clean and free of debris, garbage cans emptied regularly, cafeterias are cleaned and ready for the next usage, the grounds are well maintained and the facility running smoothly. All of this for the benefit of the people that use the facility to keep them safe and healthy.

Janitors and Janitorial staff also help to maintain the image of their facility to make it more welcoming and comfortable for those that use it.

    Thank you Janitors.

Health care facilities are a breeding ground for bacteria, germs and viruses if not clean properly. Proper cleaning and disinfecting techniques in health care institutions are important to reduce the risk of direct contamination or cross contamination. Methods of adequate cleaning vary from institutions, but there are basic guidelines to follow to prevent and disinfect health care facilities.

First, the use of PPE is important according to the type cleaning being done. Gowns, gloves, face masks, and eye protection should always be worn to avoid contamination. Second, appropriate cleaning tools make the job easier to achieve. Third, proper cleaning techniques shall be utilize to clean and disinfect health care facilities. At last, to reduce the risk of cross contamination proper cleaning techniques must be followed to clean other areas within the facility.

In conclusion, health care facilities employees have a high risk of contamination from bacteria, germs, and viruses but with appropriate cleaning and disinfecting techniques the risk of infection is lower. Medical cleaning is the fore front of reducing the risk of contamination and cross contamination of patients as well as employees.
