Bloodborne pathogens & Needlestick prevention

09 Oct 2020 11:41 AM | Deleted user

Bloodborne pathogens are pathogenic microorganisms that are present in human blood and can cause disease in humans. These pathogens include, but are not limited to, Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

Everyone who comes in contact with human blood and other bodily fluids should know how to properly clean and disinfect the area to prevent exposure.

OSHA recommends to follow Universal Precautions -  which means to treat the blood and other bodily fluids as potentially infectious. Laundry and trash should be labeled or color coded. Always wear PPE and never eat, drink or put on lip balm in areas where you could be exposed to bloodborne pathogens.
