The Importance of Janitors

27 Mar 2025 3:37 PM | Jordan Becaj

Janitors perform many essential, often out-of-sight duties that keep public and private establishments of all kinds running smoothly. Not only are they in charge of keeping everything looking and smelling good, but also cleaning high-touch areas to prevent the spread of disease, as well as properly disinfecting biohazards like blood and vomit. Without sanitary workers like janitors, the world would be far less pleasant and safe.

Janitors are trained in chemical safety and biohazard cleanup, both of which are needed to ensure the safest possible environment for themselves and others. If an untrained person were to attempt to clean a biohazard, they may inadvertently put people in danger by failing to use the proper chemicals and waste disposal methods.

In addition to their cleaning responsibilities, janitors often perform basic maintenance and environmental control tasks. They set thermostats, keep vents clear, and change lights: all things that are required for delivering a positive and safe experience to anyone using the space, but are often overlooked.
