My plan to implement a carpet cleaning program into my business is to first have a mission in mind which is to bring simplicity and automation to carpet cleaning services for homes, helping homeowners maintain a clean beautiful carpet and a beautiful home and saving them from the cost of replacing carpets. I will focus on cleaning carpets, rugs, and upholstered items and will seek to build and maintain my expertise in this area.

The area for which I would serve would be the greater South Seattle, which is an area I'm familiar with and the area I know the most people in. In addition to serving an area, I would then survey the amount of customers I can gather to build a clientele.

From this point I would use online technology to make the process of ordering, scheduling, and paying for carpet cleaning simpler for customers and myself. As far as the cleaning products, I would use environmental friendly cleaning products and stay up to date on new breakthroughs in safe and earth-friendly products and process. In order to provide good customer experience, I will already have a crew who are well trained and serviced in this area. In addition, I will provide quality assurance with a 30-day money back guarantee.

Customer Service - If everyone is responsible for it...then nobody is accountable for it.

As professional cleaners, we all must, individually, make ourselves accountable for caring and servicing our customers. This makes for a long and fruitful working relationship. Why? Well, as we all know, nobody is perfect, no matter how great of a cleaner we are. So, when things don't go as planned and the customer is unhappy, being convinced that this is an isolated incident and knowing that we actually care about their facility, will help deescalate the situation, probably before you even hear about it. This, of course, helps with RETENTION.

Customer service is not just about being "nice". It covers so much more, like, professionalism, good communication, empathy, willingness to make a correction, being sincere, being attentive, anticipating needs, providing timely solutions, resolving issues, etc.

Ase we can see, customer service is not a task to be taken lightly. We have to personalize our services to every customer and empower our technicians with the proper training so that they can properly represent your business on a day to day basis.

That's why the Customer Service Certification training course with IJCSA is an exceptional tool. Rather than generalizing, it is very specific on how we can encapsulate everything that Customer Service is.

Please consider using members of IJCSA in your facilities as we take pride and ownership of our role as cleaners and would love to implement these qualities in your facility.

Within any business, regardless of the type, your employees should always be considered as your most valuable asset. As an employer, one of my most important jobs is to make sure that all of my employees are properly educated on how to protect themselves from the many dangers within our field of work.  One of the most common dangers are bloodborne pathogens. Making sure that your employees are properly educated not only protects them, it protects your business, and your client as well.

There are many things that employees should be educated on so that they prevent cross contamination and the spread of bloodborne pathogens. For example, an employee should never attempt to compress trash with their hands, containers should be properly labeled, color coded bags must be used when necessary, and rags or sponges should never be reused. These examples are just a portion of what staff members should be educated on. Not practicing proper precautions could contaminate an entire building, which puts all of your client’s employees and customer population at risk.

As a cleaning professional, it is not uncommon to become exposed to bloodborne pathogens at one time or another. If an employee or a member of your staff is exposed, they can become gravely ill if all necessary precautions are not taken. According to OSHA, cleaning professionals should treat ALL bodily fluids as if they are infected, that is the easiest way to prevent an employee from getting infected and preventing the spread of disease. In the event an employee does become unknowingly exposed, it is important they fully understand the signs and symptoms of the different types of bloodborne pathogens such as HBV and HIV because it can be a period of time before symptoms appear. If an employee is knowingly exposed, it is imperative that they notify a supervisor immediately so that the proper protocols put in place to disinfect the area can be carried out.

While it's true, we are not caring for the sick in an ICU, for example, we are directly linked to people's health and we must take that very seriously.

As commercial cleaners, we should be proud of our hard work and contribution to society. On a day to day basis we are ridding the workplace of harmful germs, diseases and viruses.

Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, especially with the advent of the COVID-19 virus, is important to those in the cleaning / janitorial workforce as well as persons that perform basic cleaning activities at work.  Since bloodborne pathogens can be transmitted by a variety of bodily fluid dynamics, it’s critical that cleaning personnel stay vigilant to prevent accidental exposure.

All cleaning personnel, whether professional or not, need to be aware of basic safety precautions where there’s a possibility of exposure to risks.  Prevention methods might include use of gloves, masks, goggles and gowns.  Hand hygiene is a major component of precautions and is simple, yet very effective in preventing the transmission of bloodborne pathogens.

Ultimately, the OSHA guidelines provide a model that is well suited to protect those persons that work in the cleaning industry.  Additionally, due to federal law, all persons that are at risk of being exposed to bloodborne pathogens require training and annual certification or re-certification.
