Benefits Of Having A Mold Cleaning Program

29 Aug 2026 12:24 PM | Cecelia Greene

I have implemented a mold cleaning SOP into LilyCleans that's scoped intentionally: it's not meant to turn us into a mold remediation company, it's meant to train myself and my staff to safely identify and treat small, contained mold batches we encounter during our normal cleaning and post-construction work — a bathroom corner, a small patch under a sink, isolated spotting from a minor leak. The SOP covers proper assessment, PPE, limited containment, and safe cleanup for jobs within that small scope, so our team isn't guessing when they come across it on a routine job.

Just as important is what the SOP tells us not to take on. If the mold problem is larger than what our team can safely and properly handle in-house — a bigger contaminated area, hidden growth behind walls or in HVAC systems, or anything tied to unresolved structural water damage — the protocol is to stop, advise the client honestly about what they're dealing with, and point them to the next step rather than attempting a job outside our scope. That protects our clients from an undertrained crew mishandling a bigger remediation, protects our own staff from exposure risks we're not equipped for, and protects LilyCleans' reputation — we'd rather be the company that told a client the truth and pointed them right than the one that took a job we shouldn't have.
