IJCSA Janitorial Certification Essay "How Important are Janitors & Janitorial Staff to our Daily Lives?"

08 Jul 2026 10:49 PM | Emmanuella Morin

Janitors are the unseen cogs of the machine that maintains a facility. They are important as tools to protect the health of the patrons of a facility, maintain the function of equipment for daily use, and create a welcome clean environment for us to enjoy everyday.

Janitorial Staff are taught to wipe down high touch points. These are areas in a space where most people touch with their hands and consequently where germs are most likely to spread. It is a small preventive measure that mitigates the spread of harmful disease. Other tasks such as cleaning, resetting equipment allows for facilities to remain in use without interruption in service dued to failed machinery.

Every day the facilities we use are left with no trace of what happened yesterday. Every time we visit our doctors, go to the gym, or enter a grocery store, we have janitorial staff to thank that the putrid vomit from the day before is no longer there. A healthy, clean, functional environment is an important need that janitors provide.
