Knowledge of Blood born Pathogens and Employee Safety

08 Jul 2026 7:07 AM | April Stewart

Education is key when it comes to being safe for employees and clients whether it is in the commercial or residential cleaning industry. Being able to understand how and what can cause illnesses in ourselves and others is important in being able to safely clean our working spaces. Wearing appropriate PPE, having set standard and regulations on how situations should be handled are only a fraction of the safety puzzle.

As a cleaner of Air B&Bs, and older clientele, I run into constant contact of bodily fluids and dirty linens. Being knowledgeable of what to look for (such as signs of dried blood, vomit, and needles) is important for the safety of myself and my clients. Improper procedures can lead to serious health risks such as HIV exposure, AIDS, and hepatitis B which can take years before detection. So understanding the what to look for, and what to do in the event of can save a life.

Creating a binder which contains an up-to-date control action plan that is accessible by all associates which outlines all of our emergency protocols and contacts so we can act quickly and effectively. Our standards are high at Greer Family Cleaning which means knowledge of all safety protocols in power for us to stay consistent, safe, and healthy. We care about what we do, we care about the safety of others so following all procedures and guidelines set forth in this course will help us have a safe, healthy future.
