    Hand, foot, and mouth disease is most often spread by unwashed hands and contact with virus-contaminated surfaces, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Symptoms include fever, blister-like eruptions in the mouth and a rash, a CDC fact sheets states. The illness is often confused with foot-and-mouth disease, which afflicts cattle and other animals. The two diseases are not related.

    “We know this may sound silly and get a bit yucky, but we’ve got a very good reason for starting the “Dirty Mop Contest,” says Matt Morrison, communications manager for Kaivac.

    “We want cleaning professionals as well as the public to become more aware of just how contaminated a mop can become. In fact, many times you’re better off not cleaning at all than to clean with a dirty mop.”

    Flu season is at hand, and in past years that meant parents of Ledyard students would send Clorox wipes and other cleansing products to school to sanitize desktops, table tops, lockers and so on. In fact, one school board member said, teachers sometimes would request these items in a “wish list.”

    The mold has forced some students out of classrooms at the Unidos Dual Language Charter School, 4475 Hendrix Drive, and parents are happy to hear the problem is being dealt with however much it will cost. The $235,000 was the lowest bid received by the school district.

    “Health is the main issue, you know,” parent McArthur Evans told Channel 2.

    Crews working on a renovation and sound-proofing project found mold growing in the ceilings about six weeks ago. Officials walled off sections of the building, including five classrooms, and moved 100 students into portable trailers for the next few months.

    MILWAUKEE (WXOW) -- Windex, the nation's best-selling glass cleaner, is turning 75.

    The cleaning solution was first developed by The Drackett Company during the Great Depression in 1936 as a simple windshield cleaner.

    In 1992, the company was bought by Racine-based SC Johnson. The company then expanded Windex into a family of products, specializing in surfaces from mirrors and windows to computer monitors and flat-screen TVs.

    RPM, global parent of Rust-Oleum, DAP, Tremco and other top-selling industrial and consumer products, announced on Thursday the agreement to buy Legend Brands, but did not reveal the terms or when the deal would close.

    A cleaning woman from Aston was charged Friday with stealing $20,000 worth of jewelry from a home she was working at in East Goshen, Chester County, according to police.

    Melissa Ann Lash, 31, is facing six counts of theft, six counts of receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and operating a vehicle under license suspension.

    Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department officials said an 88-year-old resident of Hershey’s Mill, a 55-and-older community, called police Thursday to report 35 pieces of jewelry missing.
