In the cleaning world there are many dangers that we face on a day to day basis, from environmental dangers like storms and blizzards to man-made like broken stairs and sidewalks. So safety plays a major part when it comes to cleaning and why not? We take time to make sure our areas are cleaned so why we can't stay safe and healthy while doing so. Most cleaners only think about those dangers if they think about any. What about the dangers we can not see like Asbestos and Viruses? These dangers are silent but deadly killers.

Here I will discuss one danger that is faced.. Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP), what the are and why ALL staff should be informed on how to deal with then.

First things first, What is a Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP)? Bloodborne Pathogens are microorganisms that are in the human blood and can cause diseases in humans. Some diseases that are transmitted are HBV ,HIV, HCV just for example. Now that we know what (BBP) are the part is to understand how they can spread .

Bloodborne pathogens are spread through bodily fluids like (for name sake) blood, vomit and in some cases saliva. The way these pathogens enter the body is when they come in contact with a mucus membrane like the eyes , nose or mouth. BBP may also enter the body through a puncture ,cut or scrape in the skin. Since there are many ways to contract a BBP the Universal Approach was developed by the CDC to help stop the spread.

If more people was aware of some the basic precautions when dealing with potential hazards it will be harder for these diseases to spread.

It is not only important for the cleaners to have the knowledge of how to deal with Bloodborne Pathogens but all staff since we all can come in contact with them and the more aware we are the safer we ALL can be.

Breathe Easier, Live Longer and Save Money, by Switching to Natural Green Products

Have you been thinking about making the switch to using natural green cleaning products? Well, let me nudge you along by giving you the cold-hard-facts about everyday cleaning chemicals compared to their natural green cleaning alternative brethren. By switching over to natural green cleaning products, you will save your family money, live longer, and enjoy full, easy breathing as a side effect.

Most common household cleaners contain strong, abrasive chemicals such as chlorine, sodium hydroxide, and others that cause irritation and burning in the lungs. Do you remember learning which cleaners you can’t mix so you don’t accidentally make chlorine gas? I did, and I’m willing to bet you did too. The truth is, you shouldn’t have to worry about your cleaning solution exploding. By switching to green cleaning products such as baking soda, castile soap, and vinegar, you can clean pretty much anything in your home without having to cough your way through it.

The fact that you have to wear gloves, masks and protective clothing while scrubbing your bathroom should warn you that what you’re using, isn’t great for you. Sure you could make the argument that using them every once and a while, but the reality is that you’re using these products weekly, if not daily. It’s kind of like getting an x-ray when you see the doctors running behind the wall. If they were only exposed to it in the amount that we are in a typical lifetime, it’s not a big deal. But since they’re exposed to it every day, well, now we have a reason to be heading for the hallway. So it should make sense that limiting or eliminating the usage of these will help you to live the life you love, for longer.

The thing about branding, is that sometimes they’re really successful at convincing you to pay top dollar for their product. When in fact, there are plenty of great (and in this case better) alternatives that you can get for much less. After you switch to green cleaning products, you’ll be amazed at the staggering amount of money saved for your family. Most green cleaning supplies are naturally not that expensive and a little goes a long way. Not only that but because you use them in other areas of the household, they’re doing double (or triple) duty. A few of these heavy lifters include baking soda, vinegar, borax, coconut oil, and castile soap. Each one of these items can be used to replace cleaning items, personal care items, and even for cooking. Unfortunately, window cleaner can only be used for window cleaning.

By making simple switches to green cleaning products and, you can have a drastic increase in you and your family's quality of life. Not only is it fiscally or environmentally responsible, but it means you’re also taking toxic chemicals out of your household. Once you start cleaning with green cleaning products, you’ll wonder why you didn’t start sooner.

Green cleaning doesn’t just stop at the house though, consult with a green cleaning professional at IJCSA. All members are certified yearly to ensure they’re up to date on the latest information and techniques. IJCSA has over 2,500 members across the globe and has over 10 years in the janitorial and sanitation industry. A carpet cleaning program is an important element of any cleaning business.  Not only is it an important part of cleaning but it will help the life of the carpet and ultimately save people and businesses money from having a longer carpet life.  There are many dust particles and stains that can develop with normal wear an tear of carpets and depending on the type of carpet used, some are more stain resistant or better for wicking away moisture.  Techniques like rinsing, blotting and drying help to perform the right actions to stains and soils.  Also, learning to NEVER use hot water to remove blood  or NOT Ammonia to treat dog urine; are valuable tips.  Deodorizing is an important to kill harmful germs and neutralize odors and clean.  I will use. What I learned here to better my business, education my team, and ultimately gain loyal clients.

I will do my research even more on what I need and based on the Certification I received from IJCSA, what makes the most sense in implementing a carpet cleaning program in my company and what that exactly looks like.  I will have a list of cleaners and equipments that we use and make sure I include before and after photo results in may portfolio.  Most buildings have carpets and it is an important skill that any business and home need to maintain.  Thanks to the training I got here with IJCSA, I am now equipped for carpet cleaning success.

Mold remediation is the entire service of handling a mold infestation.  WaterPro Environmental Service is planning to leverage it's position in disinfection in order to become certified as a master cleaner.  We plan on showing customers how to provide a safe environment for their customers.

Indoor air quality sampling should be a service for us to add.  We want to make sure all tools are available to ensure our customers are safe.  In many cases HVAC issues are the root cause, so understanding the entire system and how they function together will allow us to provide top of the line service to our customers.

Now that we are a certified mold remediation service, we can be one of the only providers in our area for mold.  I received a phone call just a few weeks ago where there are no providers in our surrounding areas, so this could be a gold mine for our business while we provide a valuable service to our customers.  We hold health and environmental safety as a paramount to our foundation.  If you value your customers health and safety you should schedule an appointment today.

Green Cleaning should implement more efficient cleaning practices to reduce waste and chemical use. It should also emphasize the use of non-toxic, environmentally friendly cleaning products

Cleaning efficiency which are things like installing the proper mats at every entry way to trap dirt and pollution from entering the building. Having training staff to use chemicals and cleaning equipment properly. Main thing is when concentrating oil high traffic " touch points " such such as door handles, faucets, and other areas that people frequently come in contact with. Some other benefits are the health and safety it helps with stuff like reducing asthma attacks, keeping dust and chemical allergens at bay, improves overall indoor air quality and helps keep some type of control of the germs that's moving around. Green cleaning is all about reducing waste and cleaning more efficiently. The cleaning products are low allergenic, non- toxic, and 100% biodegradable cleaning agents, high performance, energy- efficient cleaning equipment, microfiber clothes, mop heads and dusters, last is recycled paper products. Once i've did my research I decided to use all these types of cleaning products and methods into my company for all these same reasons. It protects the health of my employees and also my clients.

In the cleaning industry, there are choices that need to be made which ultimately define and shape future and repeat business.  Or in a household setting, can affect you and your families health and daily life.  The supplies used and how  they are used can be the difference between an exceptional job well done and an average performance, in a corporate setting.  Supplies can affect whether or not a company is successful to the public, the employees working for the company and ultimately the environment.  Someone in your family can start having an allergic reaction or worse a cancer diagnosis, due to the products that are suppose to help and clean your homes and workplaces.  Everyday cleaning supplies have harmful, toxic ingredients and whether these supplies are used in homes or commercial, the knowledge of their affects must be communicated.  Comparatively, natural, green cleaning supplies have so many benefits and with IJCSA’s help, I will attempt to make this clear.
How harmful are everyday cleaning supplies?  There are very many toxic and harmful ingredients in many cleaners.  I will touch on three to give a glimpse.  Alkyl phenoxy polyethoxy ethanols, found in laundry detergents and all purpose cleaners, causes chronic health problems.  Studies in England, have found that it can alter the activity of certain genes and lead to breast cancer.  Ammonia, a chemical most have heard of, is often found in window cleaner.  Ammonia has horrible affects on the body and has been known to cause a burning sensation in the eyes, nose and throat; pain in the lungs; headache; nausea; coughing; and increased breathing rate. OSHA even regulates the amount in the air to protect its workers.  Napthalene, a chemical in carpet cleaners, is derived from coal tar and known to cause allergic skin reactions and cataracts, alters kidney function and is extremely toxic to children.  These are harmful and possibly lastly effects, of using everyday cleaning products.
There are natural cleaning supplies that are so much better to use and are naturally found in the environment.  These few are often used to clean surfaces and happen to be. Words you can pronounce.  Baking soda is made of soda ash and alkaline.  It is known as an air freshener and a carpet deodorizer.  White Vinegar cuts grease, removes mildew, odors, stains and build-up.  Lemon is a strong food acid that some even have growing on there trees in this area.  Lemon is effective against most household bacterias and smells clean and fresh.  Cornstarch is found in most kitchens in America.  It can be used to clean windows, polish furniture, shampoo carpets.  Isopropyl Alcohol is an excellent disinfectant.
Natural and green substances are their active ingredients in green cleaning.  Simple Green is a popular cleaner that has stood the test of time.  “Simple Green is a brand of cleaning products produced by Sunshine Makers, Inc. Their most well known product is Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner, which in 2004 totaled sales of at least $5.7 million USD.”  Though the company has had some toxic concerns, it stands by its 3 Million dollars in safety testing and is very often used many kitchens.
What are the advantages of green, natural cleaning products?  Ultimately, the use of natural cleaning products allows companies and individuals to clean on their terms.  They control the environment, get the job done well, and can save money and be very successful.  The negative affect versus the positive affects are easy to see and with the knowledge and resources IJCSA provide, together, we can continue to clean the best, natural and effective way for communities and to enhance our environment.
