Edwards Commercial Cleaning provides a range of cleaning services to companies all over the north east and already employs around 200 staff at its HQ in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Thanks to faster than anticipated development in 2013, the company is opening a new office near Leeds city centre to allow it to enter not only a new region, but also new markets.

Edwards Commercial Cleaning is investing around half a million pounds in its new operation by opening an office with storage facilities in Beeston, as well as buying a number of new commercial vehicles and creating 100 jobs by the end of 2015.

The company has already appointed a business development manager in Leeds alongside an initial three-strong marketing team.

Husband and wife team, Paul and Hazel Edwards, last year celebrated a decade in business with over 200 accounts on their books with businesses and organisations including the NHS, 3M, Allerton Steel and the NSPCC.

Despite the recession, Edwards Commercial Cleaning saw rapid growth in areas such as commercial premises, shopping centres, factory and clinical establishments and in the last year alone over 30 new jobs have been created for local people with turnover peaking at almost £2 million with plans to increase this by at least another £1 million by the end of 2015.

One Stop Janitorial & Office Supply Inc. held a grand opening Friday. It is the second local business started by CEO Angella Luyk.

Luyk also runs Midnight Janitorial Inc., which provides cleaning services for small and midsize offices.

The opening marks the rebranding and growth of a business Luyk started two years ago, formerly called One Stop Janitorial & Carpet Supply. It operated at the Genesee Regional Market.

The newly built 6,000-square-foot building in Scottsville includes a store, offices and warehouse. The building also houses Midnight Janitorial, which Luyk began in 2005 and has 63 employees.

One Stop provides auto-inventory tracking and delivery. That means business owners or managers work with Luyk to set levels for usage, whether it be cleaning or copier supplies, and One Stop delivers it.

She and her staff then gauge usage habits and numbers and the next time the supplies are automatically ordered and delivered.
 
"We're selling you your time back," Luyk said. "In the time it takes you to make just one supplies run, you could have written a blog, read a leadership article or made a phone call."
 
Customers may also purchase supplies by phone, email or in person.

Luyk has been named Small Business Association Person of the Year, as well as New York State Employer of the Year and winner of the national American Business Ethics Award. She serves as president of the Rochester Women’s Network.
