Zerorez sounds like a growing company whether you spell it backward or forward.

The privately owned carpet cleaning firm will move its headquarters to St. Louis Park later this year, shifting almost 170 employees out of cramped offices and a tight parking lot in Richfield.

Growth at the firm is behind the move, co-owner Michael Kaplan said.

"We moved to Richfield in 2011 and bought a building. At the time we had 22 vehicles for cleaning. Now we have about 50 and are continuing to grow," he said.

Zerorez has been on the Business Journal's list of the 50 fastest private growing company for the past two years, ranking 29th in 2013 and eighth in 2012.

Zerorez is the first tenant to be announced for Hillcrest Development's renovation of a large office and warehouse that was formerly home to the St. Louis Park Nestle factory. The firm will move into about 60,000 square feet on the east end of the site. The building is near The West End retail center.

The new space in St. Louis Park will give the company room to grow and to expand its services, Kaplan said. It is known for providing residential carpet cleaning but the company also has a growing commercial carpet cleaning business, a service cleaning out HVAC ducts and a fine-rug cleaning business.

The St. Louis Park site is fairly centralized in the metro area. It has easy access off and on Highway 100, although there will be headaches to work around like traffic and road construction, Kaplan said.

In its new home, Zerorez is working with CenterPoint Energy to get a compressed natural gas dispensing station for its hybrid fleet. Its vans use traditional fuel and natural gas that it purchases at a handful of sites around the Twin Cities.

Zerorez has retained Colliers International Minneapolis-St. Paul broker Eric Batiza to sell its 26,000-square-foot building along Highway 77 in Richfield.

MARYLAND (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Several high school football players are recovering after a cleaning mistake sent them to the hospital with severe burns.

We should warn you, some of the pictures are graphic.

School officials at Montgomery County High School in Maryland say a cleaning crew was ordered to deep clean the locker rooms after a player was suspected of having a staph infection.

Workers used a powerful disinfectant on the walls, floors and equipment.

But they also used the same chemical on the football player's pads and helmets, giving the students first and second degree chest and back burns.

"Worst pain I've ever been in my life," said one student.

"He was in great pain. He was 16. I hate to admit this, but he was crying. It was overwhelming," said parent Jabal Ray.

The players will be taking some time off to recover.

The parents say they are outraged.

The school's principal sent a letter home apologizing for the incident. He also said the school would take better precautions next time.

GASTONIAundefinedFire fighters in Gastonia say a chimney fire is a good reminder to take precautions before using fireplaces or wood stoves.

The fire spread from a fireplace into a wall in a home on Davis Park Road early Wednesday morning.

    No injuries were reported.

Firefighters say homeowners should have their chimneys and heating systems inspected annually, clear the area around hearths of debris and decorations, and keep glass doors on hearths open while burning fires to keep creosote from building up in chimneys.

SALT LAKE CITY undefined Beautiful fall colors mean changing temperatures and the looming arrival of winter. Get a head start on the shifting seasons by readying your home for less sunlight and more time spent indoors.

    Clean light fixtures

Shorter days mean more time spent indoors and lights being on longer. Now is the time to change any burned-out light bulbs and clean the light fixtures. Most light fixtures can be cleaned with a little soapy water. If time is limited, then just dusting your fixtures can help brighten a room. Don’t forget to clean the outside lights; you’ll want to be aware of any future patches of ice.

Clean Carpets: While you enjoyed spending time outside this summer, it’s likely you brought some of the great outdoors inside, where it got embedded in the carpet. Have the carpets cleaned in preparation for all the time you are about to spend inside. If money is an issue, consider cleaning only the room you use most. Or give the place a good vacuuming, completely moving furniture aside to go over the entire room.

New products on the market are designed to clean surfaces, including kitchen counters and bathroom sinks, with only water! Blogger Becky Rapinchuk is known as the "clean mama." She's been using natural cleaning products in her home for quite some time. She said, "I make pretty much everything as a homemade cleaner."

But now, a growing number of cleaning tools are aimed at taking the "green clean" one step further. From windows, to floors, even the kitchen counter and bathrooms. Products on the market, many made of microfiber, are designed to work with plain old water and without the need for chemical cleaners. Becky is a fan. She said, "For just every day wiping down the counters, cleaning surfaces, water and a microfiber cloth is sufficient."

WASHINGTON – It’s time for flu vaccine again and while it’s important for the whole family, this year health officials have some different advice for different ages: Certain kids should opt for the ouchless nasal spray. Seniors, expect to get a new kind of pneumonia shot along with that flu jab.

And too many young and middle-age adults are skipping the vaccine, says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – even though there are more options than ever.

“The best way to protect yourself against the flu is to get a flu vaccination,” said CDC Director Dr. Tom Frieden on Thursday, before rolling up his sleeve to get his own flu shot.

    Sulfuric stench clears Petaluma Target

Firefighters responded around 9:50 a.m. to a report of an employee having a medical problem at the store at 401 Kenilworth Drive, Petaluma fire Capt. and Acting Battalion Chief Jude Prokop said.

Additional ambulances and fire personnel responded after a 911 dispatcher was told there was a sulfur-type odor in a storage room and more employees needed assistance, Prokop said.

Fire crews evacuated the store and set up a field treatment area for patients.

The store was closed while fire crews investigated the cause of the smell, Prokop said.

The odor was traced to a janitorial area in the rear storage area and the fire department’s hazardous materials team checked the area with gas monitors.

The odor was found to be coming from a malfunctioning sewer drain, Prokop said.
